Jennifer Aniston may be Hollywood royalty, but behind the glamor, she’s still mourning a long-lost love—and healing from a terrifying stalker scare that left her shaken.
Nearly three decades after their romance ended, insiders say Aniston, now 56, still quietly pines for actor Daniel McDonald, a Broadway-bound star she dated in the early ’90s before Friends catapulted her to fame.
“Dan made her feel protected. He was older, grounded, and she felt safe with him,” a source close to the actress revealed. “They were together for almost five years, and there was even talk of moving back to New York to build a life together.”
But when Aniston landed the career-defining role of Rachel Green, the couple was faced with an impossible choice: her rising stardom in Los Angeles or his dream of performing on Broadway. In the end, they parted ways—and though they kept in touch for a while, life pulled them in different directions.
While McDonald went on to marry filmmaker Mujah Maraini-Melehi and father two children, he also earned a Tony nomination and made a name for himself on the stage. But tragedy struck when he was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer in 2006. He died the following year at just 46.
“Jen was heartbroken when she found out he passed,” said the source. “She later said Dan was her first real love—her soulmate. But that didn’t sit well with his widow, who fired back online, accusing Jen of reopening old wounds.”
Since then, Aniston has gone through two high-profile divorces—first with Brad Pitt and later with Justin Theroux—and a series of failed relationships. And recently, she’s also been battling the emotional fallout of a stalker scare that insiders say left her with lingering trauma.
“That experience rattled her,” the insider shared. “She’s done a lot of healing, but it made her even more guarded and reflective about the people who truly mattered in her life.”
Despite all the fame, fortune, and accolades, Aniston reportedly still reflects on what could’ve been.
“She still thinks about Dan,” the insider said. “She wonders if she’ll ever feel that kind of deep, unshakable love again.”
