Joe Biden may have left the White House, but he hasn’t left his quirks behind—much to the dismay of everyday Amtrak commuters.
Multiple passengers say the 82-year-old ex-president, once famous for his “Amtrak Joe” persona, has been making a weekly spectacle of himself on the train from Delaware to Washington, D.C. Witnesses describe Biden loudly chatting in the so-called “quiet car” and searching in vain for his signature snack.
“He was talking in the quiet car!” one frustrated rider vented. “It’s like he forgot the rules everyone else has to follow. People were shushing him, but he just kept going.”
A second witness tried to defend the former president: “He’s always being approached by people—sometimes he just can’t help it. But honestly, if you’re Joe Biden, you might be too soft spoken for anyone to hear you unless you talk up!”
Biden’s legendary sweet tooth hasn’t disappeared, either. According to fellow riders and Amtrak staff, he’s repeatedly asked for ice cream during his trips, only to be told the cafe car doesn’t serve it. “He seemed pretty disappointed. Settled for a muffin instead,” one Amtrak employee recalled.
Life After the White House: What’s Biden Really Doing in D.C.?
With his official government office tucked away near Union Station—and funded only until July—Biden’s presence in D.C. remains a mystery even to his former aides. “Nobody really knows what he’s doing there,” said one ex-staffer. “There’s talk of setting up a library, but nothing concrete. People keep asking, but the folks still working for him just dodge the question.”
Sources close to Biden say he spends his days in meetings with loyal staff and dialing up Democratic lawmakers. “He’s also popping into events from time to time, like that Juneteenth service in Galveston,” a source familiar with his schedule confirmed. “But as for public appearances? Forget about it. He keeps to himself.”
Speculation is swirling about Biden’s financial state. After stepping down and losing his $400,000 salary, insiders say the family is feeling the pinch. “He’s trying to book speeches for $300,000 a pop, but there haven’t been many takers,” a Democratic insider told us. Even Hunter Biden—once flush with foreign business deals—has admitted to friends he’s struggling to sell his artwork.
A Farewell Tour—or Just Lost on the Train?
Biden’s Amtrak adventures have become social media fodder. Passengers routinely snap pictures as he rides the rails, smartphone in hand. One even caught him giving a brief, awkward interview to CNN’s Dana Bash on the way to D.C.
But with the clock ticking on his government-paid office space, questions are mounting: What exactly is Joe Biden doing each week in Washington? And where will he go when the GSA money runs out?
As one former White House insider put it, “He’s like a ghost haunting the Capitol—nobody’s really sure why he’s there, or where he’s heading next.”
