“In 2020, one person won the election, and it wasn’t the guy complaining about it,” Obama said, according to reports from the closed-door event. “Just like my inauguration had more people. That’s just a fact.”
Republicans, and even some White House officials, wasted no time firing back. “Barack Obama should spend less time whining about his total lack of relevance and more time figuring out why the Democratic Party’s approval ratings are at historic lows,” White House Assistant Press Secretary Liz Huston told the Daily Beast.

Still, media outlets continue to cite estimates and transit numbers—ignoring the enthusiasm that Trump has brought back to the White House after years of tepid Democratic leadership. As one longtime MAGA supporter put it, “They can argue about numbers all day, but there’s no denying the energy Trump brings wherever he goes. Obama’s crowds are a memory. Trump’s crowds are the future.”
Adding fuel to the fire, President Trump’s most recent inauguration in 2025 saw America’s top business leaders, including Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos, join the celebration, a clear sign that Trump’s America-First policies are drawing powerful allies—even from the tech world.
Obama’s comments come at a time when he’s facing criticism for staying mostly silent as President Trump rolls back Democratic policies and takes bold action on border security, jobs, and restoring law and order. Instead of defending his legacy or proposing solutions, Obama seems stuck in the past—rehashing old arguments and fixating on crowd photos.
“It’s honestly sad,” said conservative radio host Mike Gallagher. “Obama’s out there boasting about old crowd sizes while Americans are more interested in jobs, lower crime, and a stronger border. That’s what President Trump is delivering.”
