Pop legend Kylie Minogue has canceled multiple European tour dates after coming down with laryngitis, sparking fresh concern for the 56-year-old’s health nearly two decades after her battle with breast cancer.
The Aussie superstar had been dazzling fans across the UK on her highly anticipated Tension Tour, which kicked off in Perth back in February. But after wrapping the UK leg last week, Kylie revealed she was struggling to recover from a viral infection—forcing her to pull the plug on four upcoming shows in Berlin, Lodz, Kaunas, and Tallinn.
In an emotional Instagram post, Kylie told fans, “Hi Lovers… I made it over the finish line (yay) but unfortunately have succumbed to a viral infection (Hello laryngitis). I’ve tried my best to recover fast… but I’m afraid it will take me some days to be well enough to get back on stage.”
The singer promised that all postponed shows will be rescheduled. “I’m so, SO sorry,” she added. “Please keep hold of your tickets… I can’t wait to see you all. Love Kylie xx.”
Laryngitis, the inflammation of the voice box, is often triggered by viral infections or overuse of the vocal cords—something that’s easy to imagine after a tour packed with high-energy performances and fan-favorite hits.
The Tension Tour has been a spectacle of glamor and nostalgia, featuring everything from her sizzling 2024 single Lights Camera Action to iconic crowd-pleasers like In Your Eyes, Spinning Around, Better the Devil You Know, and Can’t Get You Outta My Head. Kylie even wrapped up each show with an emotional encore of Tension and Love at First Sight.
This latest health scare comes nearly 20 years after Kylie’s shocking breast cancer diagnosis in 2005—a battle that forced her to pause her Showgirl Tour and sparked an international outpouring of support. Since then, she’s remained open about the lasting emotional toll of that chapter in her life, even while pushing forward as one of pop’s most enduring icons.
Despite being one of the best-selling female artists in both Australia and the UK, Kylie has famously struggled to crack the American market. “I’ve resigned myself to the fact that America wouldn’t be like the rest of the world for me,” she joked in 2022. “I’m anonymous there—which, I must confess, I kind of like.”
Still, her viral hit Padam Padam introduced her to a new generation of listeners in the States, and her recent collab with Brazilian DJ Alok dropped just in time for Valentine’s Day—proving she’s far from done.
For now, fans are holding their breath and sending well-wishes as the pop queen takes time to rest her voice and heal.
Kylie may be down for the moment—but if history tells us anything, she’ll be back spinning around in no time.
