Rosie O’Donnell is going viral again—but this time, it’s not for a political rant or an attack on conservatives.
The 63-year-old former talk show host and long-time critic of President Trump is now showing off a dramatic new look, crediting the weight loss drug Mounjaro.
And while the media fawns over her transformation, many are asking: is this just another example of a Hollywood elite using shortcuts while lecturing the rest of America?
A Slimmer Rosie—But at What Cost?
On Friday, O’Donnell posted a photo to Instagram that showed her noticeably slimmer, holding a microphone on stage. The caption read: “i cant believe this is me now.” The lowercase humility wasn’t fooling anyone.
The sudden transformation is largely thanks to Mounjaro, a prescription drug originally developed for type 2 diabetes. It’s part of the same family as Ozempic and Wegovy—injectables that have become all the rage among celebrities looking to drop pounds fast. But the skyrocketing use of these drugs has raised concerns about supply shortages for actual diabetics and long-term health risks that remain unknown.
O’Donnell first revealed she was taking Mounjaro back in January 2023 after reportedly being prescribed it to manage her diabetes. At the time, she said she had already lost 10 pounds just by changing her diet and cutting out Diet Coke. “Christmas, I stopped drinking anything except water,” she said in a previous video. “All I drink is water now. And I’m not eating sugar as much as I can.”
But critics argue the real driving force behind her weight drop isn’t discipline—it’s pharmaceuticals.
From Trump’s America to Irish Countryside
The liberal comedian also credited her move to Ireland—a move she made shortly after Donald Trump’s election—for helping her slim down. In a TikTok video earlier this year, she said, “I’ve lost more weight here,” noting that she no longer has a personal chef. “It’s me cooking for Clay and me,” she said, referring to her child, Clay.
That’s a far cry from the lavish Hollywood lifestyle she once flaunted, but some see it as a carefully crafted PR pivot. “She moved overseas, hired fewer people, and suddenly wants us to applaud her for microwaving frozen peas,” said one commenter on X (formerly Twitter). “Give me a break.”
A Long History of Weight Struggles—And Publicity
O’Donnell has never shied away from discussing her battles with weight. In 2012, she suffered a heart attack and underwent vertical sleeve gastrectomy the following year. By 2015, she said she had dropped from 240 pounds to 176, calling the surgery “life-changing.” Now, a decade later, she says she’s wearing size large instead of XXL and shopping at Dublin boutiques.
“I find it shocking,” she told fans. “I’d only worn elastic pants for years.”
But many online observers are finding the real shock in the irony. “Only in Hollywood can someone slam the American healthcare system and then post selfies after using its most expensive treatments,” quipped conservative commentator Jason Whitlock.
Style Over Substance?
While O’Donnell celebrates a healthier lifestyle and “sleeping better,” some question the deeper message behind her transformation. As weight-loss drugs become a trend among celebrities, the American public is left to navigate rising costs, drug shortages, and unrealistic body standards fueled by the very people who scold them for not doing enough.
“This isn’t about health. It’s about vanity and attention,” said one former fan. “It’s hard to cheer her on when she spent years spewing negativity and now wants praise for something the average American can’t afford.”
So while Rosie O’Donnell may not recognize the person in the mirror, many Americans are having a hard time recognizing the hypocrisy behind the applause.
