Biden’s comeback campaign fizzles as critics slam his grasp on reality, memory of events, and fixation on Trump.

Joe Biden’s latest media blitz — a desperate attempt to rewrite history and reclaim relevance — is drawing fire from unlikely places, including one of the mainstream media’s own.

New York Times columnist David Brooks, hardly a conservative firebrand, urged the 81-year-old former president to stop trying to “fight old battles” and gracefully step aside, warning that Biden’s post-presidency is veering into delusion, not dignity.

“If he ever asked me what to do,” Brooks said Friday on PBS NewsHour, “I’d tell him to rise above politics. Don’t get back in the mud. Don’t try to refight the 2024 campaign.”

A Media Blitz That Backfired

Biden emerged from relative silence this week for high-profile interviews with the BBC and The View, where he stubbornly claimed he would have beaten Donald Trump — despite bowing out of the 2024 race under a storm of cognitive decline rumors and party infighting.

He blamed Kamala Harris’s loss on “sexism and racism,” seemingly oblivious to the nationwide rejection of their administration’s record on inflation, immigration, and crime.

Brooks was blunt: “Kamala ran the best campaign she could. She was weighed down by Biden’s legacy — an unpopular presidency and a historically old candidate.”

In other words, Biden wouldn’t have fared any better. Possibly worse.

A Faulty Memory and a Defensive Stance

In one bizarre moment, Biden insisted Harris had “six full months” to run her campaign — a figure even Democrat operatives have challenged. In truth, Harris had roughly three months to campaign following Biden’s abrupt withdrawal.

“He misremembers basic facts,” one former DNC adviser told us. “That’s part of the problem.”

Pressed by The View’s Alyssa Farah Griffin on widespread accounts of his mental decline during his final year in office, Biden snapped back: “They are wrong… There’s nothing to sustain that.”

Then came a wandering response where Biden jumped from the Capitol riot to COVID deaths to vague “basic issues” he chose not to elaborate on “in the interest of time.” The incoherent answer did little to allay concerns — and only revived questions about his mental sharpness.

Jill Biden rushed to defend her husband’s work ethic. “He’d be up late reading briefings, still on the phone,” she claimed. “It was nonstop.”

But critics weren’t buying it.

“Biden’s trying to rewrite history with a highlighter and a shaky hand,” said conservative commentator Dana Loesch. “He’s not leading anymore — he’s lecturing from the past.”

Criticism from His Own Side

Brooks’ criticism reflects growing unease among Democrats that Biden might not fade quietly from the scene — especially if Kamala Harris’s loss deepens the identity crisis of a fractured party.

“What the country needs is not more Joe Biden,” Brooks said. “We need someone post-political — like Jimmy Carter after the presidency. Or George W. Bush with his painting. Do something above the fray.”

A Final Act That’s Hard to Watch

Rather than offering wisdom from experience, Biden’s tour felt like a bitter attempt to salvage ego — not legacy.

“He sounds like a man trying to convince himself more than the public,” said former Bush speechwriter Marc Thiessen.

For many Americans who lived through the skyrocketing prices, border chaos, and international blunders of the Biden years, the idea that he’d still be competitive in 2024 is not only laughable — it’s insulting.

Maybe it’s time for Biden to take Brooks’ advice. Step away. Leave the stage. And let America move forward.

  1. Jokementia needs to just enjoy his vegetablehood… there’s nothing “to come back to”. He’s only fooling those who want to be fooled.
The View gave KamalToe the chance to strike out in a new direction. She insisted she wouldn’t be doing anything different from The Worst President in History. And had been worse than a failure at Border Czar, deliberately doing evil.
