Things are getting messy behind the scenes at MSNBC. Sources say a full-blown internal war is unfolding between the network’s longtime star Rachel Maddow and newly appointed executive Rebecca Kutler — and it’s threatening to derail Maddow’s future at the network.

The left-leaning network is facing internal chaos as its top talent clashes with new leadership, just as America experiences a sharp political shift to the right. And while Maddow temporarily boosted ratings after returning to a full-week schedule in the wake of Donald Trump’s 2024 election win, insiders say she’s now going rogue.

Maddow has reportedly skipped multiple meetings with Kutler, ignored directives, and openly defied management — even hinting she could blow up the status quo if she doesn’t get her way. One insider described it bluntly: “Rachel’s making it very clear she doesn’t recognize Rebecca’s authority. It’s a slow-motion mutiny.”

The tensions exploded after Maddow publicly criticized MSNBC for firing anchor Joy Reid earlier this year — a move that shocked producers and further strained her relationship with Kutler.

Kutler, who took the reins in November with a mission to revive MSNBC’s flailing ratings, now faces the challenge of reigning in a host who still pulls top dollar — reportedly earning around $25 million a year — but is delivering diminishing returns. Maddow’s audience has dropped by 25 percent since Election Day, falling from 2.3 million viewers to 1.8 million by early March.

Behind the scenes, sources say Maddow has repeatedly canceled planned sit-downs with Kutler, refusing to iron things out. Some producers remain loyal to the longtime host, but rising talent and network execs are growing increasingly frustrated with her hefty paycheck and increasingly light workload.

Adding fuel to the fire, Maddow is expected to return to her Mondays-only schedule once President Trump’s first 100 days in office are up — a move Kutler reportedly sees as unacceptable given the salary involved.

“Rachel might have fooled her old boss with the ‘one show a week and a podcast’ routine,” one source said. “But Rebecca’s not buying it. She wants five days a week — or a serious pay cut. If Rachel doesn’t start playing ball soon, she could be gone.”

As MSNBC fights to stay relevant in a media landscape dominated by Fox News, this internal power struggle may be the first of many shakeups — and it looks like Rachel Maddow’s days as the queen of cable news could be numbered.

  1. MSNBC has become disgusting! What is WRONG with them? Why are they now AFRAID of Donald Trump? Hang in there Rachel Maddow! SHE is the REAL news!

    1. If Rachel does decide to leave the show; it’ll turn out the same as that fake news/maga boot licking as fox station. No more unbiased news reported. Not a good look for the public that want/need to hear real reporting. The right has fox running so scarced that don’t know where their heads end and tRump’s behind begin-pathetic.

  2. This supposively called woman needs to go. She is a disgrace to America. Good riddance to rubbish! She’s a poor lost soul, she needs prayer. Please pray for her to wake up and her eyes to he open. Sent from my iPhone

  3. I though Rachel Maddow was all ready gone. Another pay cut around $19 million should do the trick
