“Drink in the mediocrity,” says Fr. Brendan Kilcoyne as he slams Meghan’s Netflix special and praises royal ‘narrow escape’
In a fiery podcast sermon that’s going viral for all the right reasons, an Irish Catholic priest has delivered a blistering takedown of Meghan Markle and her new Netflix documentary With Love, Meghan—and he’s recommending it as punishment.
Yes, punishment.
Fr. Brendan Kilcoyne, speaking from the pulpit of his podcast The Brendan Option, urged his Catholic audience to consider watching the documentary as an act of penance during Lent. “It’s bloody awful,” the priest declared. “But it’s so awful, it’s almost good—if only to savor the fact that the British monarchy dodged a bullet.”
Kilcoyne, a parish priest in the small Irish town of Balla, Co. Mayo, didn’t hold back. “You could offer it up for Lent. Just sit there and drink in the mediocrity,” he quipped. “Savour the narrow escape that one of the most distinguished royal lines in the world has just had.”
“God in Heaven Protect His Majesty”
In the Netflix show, Meghan is seen chatting with a beekeeper—a moment Fr. Kilcoyne couldn’t help but ridicule. “The bees were mortified,” he joked, calling the scene “riveting, in the worst possible way.”
He went further, calling Meghan “Nemesis… the anti-monarchy,” and warned that the royal institution must have had “an instinctive, almost muscular spasm” to expel what he called a “direct threat.”
“She operates at such a shallow level,” Kilcoyne said. “Say what you like about Harry—he’s a former soldier, his father and uncles all served. They don’t deserve to be attached to this circus.”
From Royalty to Reality TV
Fr. Kilcoyne’s remarks hit at the heart of what many conservatives on both sides of the Atlantic have criticized: Meghan’s transformation of royal status into personal brand. In With Love, Meghan, critics say the former Duchess of Sussex continues to reframe her split from the monarchy through a lens of grievance, victimhood, and carefully curated PR.
“She’s gone full celebrity,” said American conservative commentator Lauren Stephens. “She’s not interested in service or tradition. She’s interested in attention—and monetizing her proximity to royalty.”
Fr. Kilcoyne agreed, saying, “Nobody deserves that—not the King, not the Crown, not the bees!”
He sarcastically referred to Meghan as “Her Muchness of Sussex” and thanked divine providence for her relocation. “Thank God they’re out in Montecito. Herself and her poor, deluded noggins of a husband.”
A Warning From Across the Pond
While some on the Left continue to elevate Meghan as a symbol of progress and change, Kilcoyne’s remarks echo a growing sentiment among traditionalists and royalists alike—that the institution of monarchy narrowly escaped disaster.
“This isn’t just about one woman,” Kilcoyne said. “It’s about the survival of an ancient institution under siege by modern shallowness. The Crown still has some fight left in it. And thank God for that.”
If watching a two-hour Netflix special filled with self-praise and carefully choreographed vulnerability sounds like suffering—Fr. Kilcoyne agrees.
“Watch it,” he said. “Do it for Lent. And thank Heaven for narrow escapes.”

Yes they do monarchy is a big joke. What old fart.
Wow, and he’s a person people are supposed to look up to! In my opinion he has no right leading people to Christ! Nobody in his position should be passing judgement on ANYBODY and to top it off calling her names! The Bible tells us not to judge, and here he is a “Godly” man passing judgement! This man is disgusting and a disgrace to the Catholic Church! He calls himself a Godly man, he’s far from that in my opinion! Shame on him. I’m not catholic, but this article and MAN, not of God. This man just gave me an even worse taste in my mouth towards the Catholic Church.
