An early Christmas morning turned deadly at an IHOP in Miramar, Florida, leaving two women dead and one individual injured in what police describe as a targeted attack. The incident occurred shortly before 1:30 a.m. at the restaurant on 7990 Miramar Parkway, according to local authorities.

Emergency responders transported the three victims to Memorial Hospital Miramar with gunshot wounds. Tragically, two of the victims succumbed to their injuries. The third remains hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, according to a hospital spokesperson.

Eyewitnesses reported hearing multiple gunshots and chaos erupting as diners scrambled for safety. “It was like something out of a movie. Everyone was screaming and trying to hide under tables,” said Linda Carson, a patron who was dining with her family when the shooting occurred.

Miramar Police Department spokesperson Janice McIntosh emphasized that the attack was not random. “Preliminary investigations reveal that this was a targeted attack, and the victims were known to one another,” McIntosh stated. “At this time, we are not seeking any suspects and do not believe the public is at risk.”

Local station WPLG-Local 10 confirmed that the two deceased victims were women, though their identities have not been released pending notification of next of kin.

The violent act has left the community shaken. “This is supposed to be a time of peace and joy, not something like this,” said longtime Miramar resident Kevin Hayes. “You don’t expect something so terrible to happen, especially on Christmas.”

City officials also weighed in, urging the public to remain vigilant while the investigation continues. “While this appears to be an isolated incident, it’s a stark reminder of how gun violence affects us all,” said Mayor Yvette Colbourne. “Our hearts go out to the victims and their families during this unimaginable time.”

This shooting adds to a troubling trend of gun violence in South Florida. Broward County has reported a spike in firearm-related incidents over the past year. Experts point to a combination of social tensions and increased firearm accessibility as contributing factors. According to data from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, the county saw a 12% rise in gun-related homicides in 2023 compared to the previous year.

As the investigation unfolds, police are urging anyone with information to come forward. “No detail is too small. If you saw or heard anything, please let us know,” McIntosh said.

The community is also rallying to support the victims’ families. A local church, Miramar Community Outreach, announced plans for a candlelight vigil on Thursday evening to honor the lives lost.
