Isak Andic, the billionaire founder of the globally renowned fashion brand Mango, tragically passed away at the age of 71 following a fatal fall during a hiking trip on Saturday. Andic was hiking with family members in the rugged Montserrat mountain range near Barcelona, Spain, when the accident occurred.
Andic, known as one of Spain’s wealthiest individuals, was reportedly traversing a difficult trail near the Salnitre caves, a popular but treacherous area for hikers. The billionaire, who was walking with his partner, Estefanía Knuth, and his son Jonathan, slipped and fell approximately 500 feet into a deep ravine.
The group immediately called for help, and emergency responders swiftly arrived at the scene. A helicopter was dispatched to aid in the search, but it took hours before Andic’s body was located. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Andic was the fifth richest man in Spain, having amassed his fortune as the founder of Mango, the European fashion giant that has become a household name. His sudden death has sent shockwaves through the fashion industry and beyond.
Toni Ruiz, the CEO of Mango, expressed deep sorrow over Andic’s passing. “It is with deep regret that we announce the unexpected death of Isak Andic, our non-executive chairman and founder of Mango,” Ruiz said in a statement. “His departure leaves a huge void, but we carry forward his legacy. It is our responsibility to ensure Mango continues to reflect the ambition and pride he instilled in the brand.”
Andic’s hiking companions, his partner Estefanía Knuth, 51, a former professional golfer, and son Jonathan, 43, an executive at Mango, were shaken by the loss. Andic is also survived by two daughters, Judith and Sarah, who were not with him on the hike.
According to local reports, the Montserrat area is known for its difficult terrain, especially the path leading to the Montserrat monastery, which has proven challenging even for experienced hikers.
As the Andic family comes to terms with their grief, many across Spain and the global business community are mourning the loss of a visionary leader who built a brand that reshaped the European fashion landscape.
The Montserrat mountain range, famous for its limestone turrets, has long been a destination for outdoor enthusiasts. But despite its beauty, the area remains perilous, as evidenced by this tragedy.
Our thoughts are with Isak Andic’s family, friends, and colleagues at this profoundly difficult time. His legacy will live on through the brand he founded and the mark he left on the fashion world.
