Phil Robertson, the 78-year-old patriarch of the Duck Dynasty clan, is grappling with serious health challenges, his family revealed.

In a recent episode of the Unashamed with the Robertson Family podcast, Phil’s son Jase shared the sobering news: his father is in the early stages of Alzheimer’s disease and suffering from a debilitating blood disorder.

“Phil’s not doing well,” Jase, 55, admitted on the Dec. 6 episode. “The doctors are confident he has some sort of blood disease that’s causing widespread issues. On top of that, he’s showing early signs of Alzheimer’s, which is making everything more difficult.”

Jase explained that the combination of these conditions has taken a toll on the beloved family patriarch, known for his larger-than-life persona and no-nonsense wisdom. “It’s like everything is accelerating. The blood disease is impacting his whole body, and the memory loss from Alzheimer’s is heartbreaking to watch,” Jase shared. “He’s struggling, physically and mentally.”

Despite these challenges, Phil’s determination remains intact. According to Jase, his father is eager to return to his podcasting duties. “He said, ‘Tell me about it,’ when I pointed out how much his health has changed. But the truth is, he can’t sit through a conversation like he used to. It’s painful to see him like this.”

Phil, who rose to fame on the hit reality series Duck Dynasty, shares four sons—Jase, Al, Jep, and Willie—and a daughter, Phyllis, with his wife of nearly six decades, Kay Robertson, affectionately known as Miss Kay. The family became household names for their humor, faith, and down-to-earth approach to life.

The Robertsons are now focusing on making Phil as comfortable as possible. “We’ve assembled a team of doctors who agree that there’s no cure for what he has,” Jase said. “All we can do is manage the symptoms and make his life a little easier.”

Alzheimer’s, the most common form of dementia, affects millions of people worldwide. Early symptoms often include difficulty remembering recent events or conversations, according to the Mayo Clinic. Over time, it can severely impact daily life, leaving families to grapple with its profound effects.

For the Robertsons, this battle is deeply personal. “We’re doing everything we can to improve his quality of life,” Jase said. “But it’s not easy knowing that his condition will only get worse.”

Fans of Duck Dynasty will remember Phil as a man who built his empire from humble beginnings, turning his passion for duck calls into a multimillion-dollar business.

The family’s faith and resilience have been central to their journey, and now, they are relying on that same strength to navigate Phil’s health struggles.

As the family rallies around their patriarch, they continue to cherish every moment together. “We’re leaning on each other and on our faith,” Jase said. “That’s all we can do right now.”

The Robertsons have not announced further plans but remain hopeful for as much quality time with Phil as possible. Fans and loved ones alike will no doubt keep the family in their prayers during this challenging time.

  1. Prayers go out for Phil. He has been an inspiration to so many. I remember when Terry Bradshaw thanked Phil for dropping out of Football at Louisiana Tech U as he was the starting QB at the time. Terry Bradshaw took over that spot and the rest is history for both of these men. Wishing Phil he gets all the help he needs, he’s an ICON for sure. God Bless Phil!
