A Glen Burnie resident faces multiple charges after a viral TikTok video showed him using a flamethrower to burn the words “TRUMP” and “USA” into a public street, according to Anne Arundel County police.
The incident occurred on November 15 on Hickory Hollow Drive, a residential street in the Creekside Village neighborhood. Fire and Arson investigators were called to the scene after reports of property damage surfaced.
Upon arrival, officers discovered the scorched words prominently etched into the asphalt. The road, maintained by the Creekside Village Homeowners Association, was charred beyond repair, causing significant community outrage.
Social Media Stunt Gone Wrong
Police say the suspect, identified as 34-year-old Craig McQuin, recorded himself dousing the street with a flammable liquid before igniting it with a flamethrower. The dramatic flames illuminated the night as McQuin proudly showcased his handiwork in the now-deleted TikTok clip.

“Arson is no joke,” said Anne Arundel County Fire Department spokesperson Lt. Sarah Greene. “What may have seemed like a flashy social media stunt posed a serious danger to the neighborhood.”
Legal Fallout
McQuin has been charged with second-degree malicious burning, destruction of property exceeding $1,000, and possession of a destructive device. In Maryland, flamethrowers are classified as prohibited devices due to their potential to cause widespread damage and endanger public safety.
“Using a flamethrower in a residential area is reckless and illegal,” emphasized Officer Michael Jenkins of the Anne Arundel County Police. “This isn’t a video game—actions like these have real consequences.”
Community Reactions
Residents of Creekside Village expressed shock and frustration over the incident. “It’s terrifying to think someone would do this right outside our homes,” said Rebecca Cole, a mother of two who lives nearby. “What if the flames had spread to one of the houses?”
Others questioned the political motives behind the act. “We’re a tight-knit community,” added James Carter, a long-time resident. “Bringing politics into this kind of destructive behavior doesn’t sit well with anyone here.”
Political Tensions
This incident comes amid heightened political tensions across the U.S., where displays of political allegiance have increasingly led to acts of vandalism and violence. Authorities are urging residents to report any suspicious activities and to remain vigilant.
McQuin is currently out on bail pending a court appearance later this month. If convicted, he could face several years in prison and hefty fines.
While the flames may have died down, the incident has left a lasting scar—both on the road and within the community.
