Woman Brutally Stabbed While Sleeping in ‘Quiet’ Florida Neighborhood

A quiet Florida neighborhood was shattered when a man allegedly broke into a home and savagely stabbed a woman as she slept. The violent incident unfolded early Sunday morning on New York Drive in Tice, a small community just northeast of Fort Myers.

Deputies from the Lee County Sheriff’s Office rushed to the scene after receiving a 911 call reporting a vicious attack. Inside the home, they found a woman suffering from multiple stab wounds, bleeding heavily but still alive.

Sheriff Carmine Marceno described the scene as “horrific.” He praised his deputies for their swift response. “Our team acted quickly and decisively,” Marceno said. “Their actions likely saved this woman’s life.”

High-Tech Manhunt Leads to Arrest

As medics worked to stabilize the victim, the Sheriff’s Office drone unit was launched to track down the fleeing suspect. Drone operator Justin McDonald quickly located the attacker just one street away.

Armed with a weapon, 33-year-old Bonnier Jose Sarmiento Lanza was apprehended without incident. According to authorities, he still had the knife in hand when deputies surrounded him.

Inside the Attack

Detectives revealed chilling details about the break-in. Lanza allegedly entered the home under cover of darkness and launched a frenzied attack on the sleeping woman. Another occupant of the home was also assaulted during the rampage.

“The level of violence in this case is deeply concerning,” said Marceno. “This was not a random act. The suspect and victim knew each other.”

The motive for the attack remains unclear. Police have not disclosed the nature of their relationship but confirmed it was not a home invasion targeting strangers.

Charges and Ongoing Investigation

Lanza now faces multiple felony charges, including two counts of burglary with battery and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. He remains in custody at the Lee County Jail.

Meanwhile, the victim is being treated at a local hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.

“This community will not tolerate such acts of violence,” Marceno emphasized. “With the help of technology and dedicated law enforcement, we will hold offenders accountable.”

As the investigation continues, authorities have urged anyone with additional information to come forward. While no further details have been released, residents remain on edge, grappling with the shock of such a brutal crime in their neighborhood.

“This is a quiet street,” said a neighbor who wished to remain anonymous. “You never think something like this could happen here.”
