In a fitting tribute to one of America’s most beloved television icons, the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) will release a Betty White Forever stamp in 2025, celebrating her remarkable life and lasting legacy in entertainment.

Known to millions as the quick-witted Rose from The Golden Girls, Betty White won over generations with her humor, charm, and enduring spirit.

A Long-Awaited Honor for a Television Pioneer

The USPS, in an announcement this past Friday, confirmed that Betty White’s image would join the ranks of iconic Americans commemorated on stamps. “An icon of American television, Betty White (1922–2021) shared her wit and warmth with viewers for seven decades,” said the USPS. “The comedic actor, who gained younger generations of fans as she entered her 90s, was also revered as a compassionate advocate for animals.”

Designed by USPS art director Greg Breeding, the stamp features a digital illustration by Boston-based artist Dale Stephanos, inspired by a 2010 photo of White taken by renowned celebrity photographer Kwaku Alston.

The Icon Who Kept Us Laughing Until the End

Betty White passed away on December 31, 2021, just 17 days shy of her 100th birthday. Her career, which spanned more than 70 years, began in the early 1950s when she became a fixture on Hollywood on Television. In her later years, she famously revived her popularity with roles on The Mary Tyler Moore Show and The Golden Girls, leaving a comedic legacy unmatched in its breadth and appeal.

Seth Meyers recalled White’s larger-than-life personality following her passing, tweeting that she was “the only SNL host I ever saw get a standing ovation at the after party. A party at which she ordered a vodka and a hotdog and stayed till the bitter end.”

White became a household name with her blend of wholesome humor and clever, often cheeky punchlines, becoming a symbol of television’s golden age and remaining a trailblazer as she aged.

Betty White Joins a Storied Tradition of Commemorative Stamps

While USPS hasn’t confirmed a release date, the addition of Betty White’s image to the Forever stamp series highlights a continued push to celebrate American cultural icons. Alongside her stamp, the 2025 lineup will also include jazz legend Allen Toussaint, who will be featured as the 48th entry in the Black Heritage series.

“This early glimpse into our 2025 stamp program demonstrates our commitment to providing a diverse range of subjects and designs for both philatelists and stamp enthusiasts,” said USPS Stamp Services Director Lisa Bobb-Semple.

White’s stamp will mark a new chapter in an iconic career that touched millions, making her unforgettable in both television and postal history.
