In a stunning moment on Tuesday’s episode of The View, Whoopi Goldberg, one of Hollywood’s long-standing personalities, revealed an unexpected truth—she can’t afford to stop working.

At 69, after decades in the entertainment industry, Goldberg’s admission shows a new side to the high-paid elite. It’s not the first time Goldberg has surprised audiences, but this time, her confession hit home for millions of Americans facing tough times.

While discussing Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s recent Instagram post about voter intentions, Goldberg chimed in with a revealing remark about her financial situation. In a climate where many Americans are struggling, Goldberg echoed sentiments familiar to working families: “I appreciate that people are having a hard time. Me, too. I work for a living. If I had all the money in the world, I would not be here, okay? So, I’m a working person, you know?” She even mentioned her granddaughter and great-granddaughter, underscoring the financial burden of family responsibility.

What’s perhaps most shocking is that Goldberg, with her celebrated career and iconic status in Hollywood, still feels financially tethered to her job. This revelation seems to reflect a broader cultural trend of financial insecurities—even among the wealthy.

According to a recent study by the Transamerica Center for Retirement Studies, over 30% of Americans aged 50 and older report that they have saved less than $25,000 for retirement. A figure like Goldberg, who has likely amassed a comfortable income, feels pressured to keep working, what does this say about the economic realities of retirement for the average American?

Goldberg’s candor stands in stark contrast to her often outspoken political views. She’s a fierce critic of former President Donald Trump, whom she famously refuses to address by name. Instead, Goldberg refers to Trump as “you-know-who,” a habit that has made her a polarizing figure among conservative viewers.

Trump, never one to shy away from sparring with Hollywood elites, labeled Goldberg a “demented and disgusting person” at a rally in Pennsylvania last month. Goldberg was quick to fire back, calling Trump’s attacks ridiculous. “I have always been filthy,” she quipped on the show. “I headlined, babe, at your casino, which I might’ve continued to play had you not run it into the ground.” Goldberg’s disdain for the former president, and his for her, seems to exemplify the widening chasm in American politics.

This revelation from Goldberg only amplifies the political tension surrounding The View. The show, infamous for its progressive commentary, has consistently shown hostility toward conservative views and values. For years, The View has drawn criticism from the right for what many see as biased attacks on Republican values and figures. Critics argue that mainstream entertainment—The View being no exception—has become a platform for bashing conservative ideals.

While Goldberg and her co-hosts champion “free speech,” they’ve routinely dismissed or mocked the millions of Americans who support conservative leaders like Trump. For many Republicans, Goldberg’s struggle isn’t relatable. It’s a reminder that Hollywood elites may be out of touch with the real challenges faced by middle America.

Goldberg’s words, no doubt, resonate for those living paycheck to paycheck in Biden’s shaky economy. Inflation is squeezing households, pushing up the cost of groceries and gas. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that inflation rates in 2023 hit their highest in four decades, an economic reality that may make retirement feel like an impossible dream for many Americans .

  1. Frankly, I don\’t believe her for one minute! If what she says has an iota of truth behind it, it\’s not because of economic factors that are hurting the majority of us; but rather an affluent lifestyle or extremely wasteful frivolous habits, that us mere hard working folks can\’t even try! Total phony- maybe she can go live with Kamala, or join the homeless in San Francisco!

    1. I agree. Try living paycheck to paycheck just to pay the bills, and sometimes not being able to afford medicine or basic necessities.
      No sympathy.

  2. Ohhh, so now that Trump is going to be President Whoopie wants everyone to feel sorry for her. Sorry about that, you don’t get to be the victim. Poor management of your “wealth” is not any ones fault but your own. When are you leaving the country as you promised??? We don’t need your sorry ass here. Good by and good riddance!

  3. Woopie would not make a debt free woopie cushion
What an outrage to try to say she is just an average working woman

  4. Trump can afford not to work, running AMERICA and donating his pay for four years. Since you-know-what ( my new name for W.G.) cannot afford to stop working I believe Trump has done much better than her/it.

  5. WHOOPI is a Shameful , irresponsible, overly loud example of a vengeaneful woman. I don’t know why she is so angry as the conservatives haven’t done anything to her and her overpaid job. Why the Hollywood and other actors think they are so famous that they rule the world is beyond my intelligence. I make my own decisions without their influence. And, truly, I believe that I am smarter than Whoopi, and, I don’t have to yell at anyone to know that.
