In a dramatic turn of events, former United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley responded to President-elect Donald Trump’s announcement that she will not be part of his upcoming administration. Haley, who once fiercely vied against Trump for the Republican nomination, chose to react with grace and diplomacy.

Taking to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday, Haley wrote: “I was proud to work with President Trump defending America at the United Nations. I wish him, and all who serve, great success in moving us forward to a stronger, safer America over the next four years.” The message came across as measured and resolute, emphasizing unity despite their political differences.

Her response followed Trump’s blunt declaration on Truth Social earlier that day, where he decisively ruled out both Haley and former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo from positions in his new cabinet. “I will not be inviting former Ambassador Nikki Haley, or former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, to join the Trump Administration, which is currently in formation,” Trump stated. Yet, the president-elect added a note of appreciation, saying, “I very much enjoyed and appreciated working with them previously, and would like to thank them for their service to our Country. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”

The announcement added fuel to swirling speculation over who would fill key roles in Trump’s return to the White House. Sources close to the transition team suggest there is considerable deliberation over candidates, with many political analysts highlighting Trump’s unpredictable choice-making style.

Haley’s relationship with Trump has long been a subject of intrigue. During her campaign for the Republican nomination, she positioned herself as a fresh alternative, at times sharply criticizing Trump. However, in the closing days of the race, she shifted gears. In a surprising move, Haley authored an op-ed titled Trump Isn’t Perfect, but He’s the Better Choice, where she made her case for supporting the former president.

“I don’t agree with Mr. Trump 100% of the time,” Haley wrote in the piece, acknowledging their differences. “But I do agree with him most of the time, and I disagree with Ms. Harris nearly all the time. That makes this an easy call.” Her pragmatic endorsement underscored her belief that Trump’s policies align more closely with her vision for America, despite any prior clashes.

Trump’s decision to exclude both Haley and Pompeo from his administration could mark a strategic pivot as he prepares for another term. For Haley, who served as governor of South Carolina before her high-profile UN role, this could be a moment to consider her next political steps.

While Haley’s public response reflects grace under fire, her political future remains an open question. What will be her next move? And what does this reveal about Trump’s evolving inner circle? As the political landscape shifts, these are questions worth watching.

  1. Haley has been too squishy on her support for President Trump. I view her as globalist rather than America First and she does not belong in his new administration.
