San Francisco 49ers star Nick Bosa, known for his powerhouse defense, took to the field in a bold red, white, and gold “Make America Great Again” hat after the team’s big win over the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday Night Football.
With the November election just around the corner, Bosa’s public nod to former President Donald Trump turned heads and added heat to the NFL’s primetime showdown.
The moment happened fast but packed a punch. NBC’s Melissa Stark was on the sidelines interviewing quarterback Brock Purdy, tight end George Kittle, and running back Isaac Guerendo.
Bosa, 27, jumped into the frame, silently pointing to his MAGA hat before dashing off-camera. Laughing, Stark acknowledged the unscripted moment: “Alright, Nick Bosa with a message there!” The reaction from Bosa’s teammates? Smirks and chuckles, but no comments.

When asked at the post-game press conference whether he meant to make a “political statement,” Bosa kept it brief. “I’m not gonna talk too much about it, but I think it’s an important time,” he said.

Bosa’s stand isn’t new; he’s among a select few in the NFL showing open support for a presidential candidate this season. Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker also made headlines this year by endorsing Trump.
Bosa’s history with Trump goes way back, and he’s never shied from voicing his views. In 2019, after being drafted second overall, Trump gave Bosa a shout-out on Twitter (now X), telling him to “stay true to yourself.” A Fort Lauderdale native and a former Ohio State standout, Bosa was known even then for his admiration of Trump, having tweeted, “Love this man,” with a retweet of Trump’s weekly address.
But Bosa’s early support came at a cost. Just before the draft, he reportedly had to delete some pro-Trump tweets—one notably calling former 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick a “clown” for kneeling during the national anthem. “I had to,” he told ESPN. “There is a chance I might end up in San Francisco.”
Bosa’s connection with Trump didn’t end there. Earlier this year, he was seen posing alongside Trump, Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow, and defensive end Sam Hubbard at a UFC event, proving his loyalty to the former president hasn’t wavered. Bosa even described Trump as “charismatic,” telling SFGate he felt Trump brought a unique energy to the presidential race in 2016.
Bosa’s standout performance on Sunday, with three tackles, a sack, and three quarterback hits, sealed the 49ers’ 30-24 victory. As the 2022 Defensive Player of the Year, Bosa’s not only solidifying his place on the field—he’s also cementing himself as one of the few NFL players openly backing Trump ahead of this high-stakes election.

Sad that Bosa supports a dictator while living in the world’s greatest democracy 🤔
