Brad Pitt’s famous last name is disappearing from his children’s lives one by one, and now his youngest daughter has made a major decision official.
Vivienne, the 18-year-old daughter of Pitt and Angelina Jolie, has legally removed her father’s surname, becoming the fourth of the former Hollywood power couple’s six children to make the change.
A Los Angeles Superior Court judge approved Vivienne’s petition on Monday, November 2, officially changing her name from Vivienne Marcheline Jolie-Pitt to Vivienne Marcheline Jolie.
According to court documents obtained by People and Us Weekly, there were no objections to the request. Judge Virginia Keeny signed the order following a hearing at the Stanley Mosk Courthouse in downtown Los Angeles.
Vivienne filed the paperwork on July 20, just eight days after celebrating her 18th birthday with twin brother Knox. She listed her reason for the change simply as “personal,” offering no further explanation.
But the decision had been quietly taking shape for years.
Back in 2024, Vivienne raised eyebrows when she was credited as “Vivienne Jolie” in the Playbill for Broadway’s The Outsiders, which she helped bring to the stage alongside her mother. Angelina served as a producer on the Tony Award-winning musical, while Vivienne worked as a production assistant.
At the time, it was unclear whether the teenager had officially abandoned her father’s surname. Now, more than two years later, the change is legally binding.
And Vivienne is far from alone.
Her older sister Shiloh was the first to take the step, filing to remove Pitt from her name on her 18th birthday in May 2024. A judge approved her request that August.
Two more siblings followed this year. Maddox, 25, received approval to become Maddox Chivan Jolie in September, while Zahara, 21, officially became Zahara Marley Jolie later that month.
That leaves just two of the couple’s six children, Pax and Knox, without publicly confirmed legal name changes.
Even Knox has reportedly begun using Jolie without Pitt. The teenager’s high school diploma displayed the name “Knox Jolie” earlier this year, although no court order confirming a legal change has surfaced.
The growing list of name changes adds another striking chapter to one of Hollywood’s most bitter and closely watched family breakups.
Pitt and Jolie, once considered one of the entertainment industry’s biggest power couples, married in 2014 after nearly a decade together. Their marriage unraveled just two years later when Jolie filed for divorce in September 2016.
What followed was an eight-year legal battle involving their family and finances. Although the former couple finally reached a divorce settlement in December 2024, their separate dispute over the French winery Château Miraval has continued.
Pitt’s relationship with several of his children has also been the subject of reports of estrangement, although the family has largely kept the details private.
Neither Pitt nor Jolie has publicly addressed Vivienne’s latest decision, and the teenager has not explained what prompted her to make the change. The legal filing provides no indication that she intended the move as a public statement against her father.
Still, the numbers tell a remarkable story: Four of Pitt’s six children have now legally removed his surname, with another publicly using Jolie instead.
For a family that once shared one of Hollywood’s most recognizable double-barreled names, the change is becoming increasingly difficult to ignore.
