Gisele Bündchen Used Astrology to ‘Divorce’ Tom Brady

A new book about Tom Brady is offering a surprising account of the final years of his marriage to Gisele Bündchen — including a claim that the supermodel turned to astrology before deciding their relationship had run its course.

Sports journalist Lars Anderson makes the allegation in his new biography, Brady: An American Story and the Price of Greatness, which is scheduled to be released September 29.

According to the book, an unnamed source close to Brady claimed Bündchen eventually consulted astrology and reached a blunt conclusion about her marriage.

“One day, Gisele, who is really into astrology, basically looked into the stars and told Tom, ‘We’re not compatible,’” the source told Anderson, according to an excerpt reported by RadarOnline.

The source then claimed that Bündchen had reached her breaking point.

But while the anecdote offers a dramatic new detail about the former power couple, neither Bündchen nor Brady has publicly confirmed that astrology played a role in their divorce.

And Bündchen has previously pushed back against attempts to reduce the collapse of their 13-year marriage to one issue.

A Marriage Under Pressure

Anderson’s 432-page biography examines the enormous personal demands that accompanied Brady’s record-breaking NFL career.

Publisher Celadon Books says the biography is based on years of reporting and sources from across Brady’s life, including an examination of how his intense commitment to football affected his life as a husband and father. The book goes on sale Tuesday, September 29.

According to Anderson’s account, questions about retirement had been hanging over Brady and Bündchen for years.

The author claims Bündchen raised the possibility of Brady walking away from football following New England’s stunning comeback victory over the Atlanta Falcons in Super Bowl LI in February 2017.

That championship was Brady’s fifth Super Bowl victory — not his sixth, as some reports about the book have stated. The Patriots erased a 25-point deficit and defeated Atlanta 34-28 in overtime, with Brady earning his fourth Super Bowl MVP award.

Anderson claims Bündchen questioned whether the historic victory might be the perfect moment for her husband to retire.

Brady instead continued playing for another six seasons.

The following year, according to Anderson, Bündchen allegedly wrote Brady a note after the Patriots lost Super Bowl LII to the Philadelphia Eagles.

The book claims she wanted Brady to be more mentally present when he was home and more involved with family life instead of remaining consumed by football.

Anderson also claims Bündchen wanted more help raising their children, more opportunities to focus on her own career and occasional relief from the demanding schedule surrounding Brady’s football life.

Bündchen Had Publicly Raised Similar Concerns

Some of those concerns are consistent with what Bündchen herself said while the couple was still married.

In a September 2022 interview with Elle, Bündchen acknowledged that she had repeatedly discussed Brady’s career with him.

She said she worried about the physical dangers of football and wanted Brady to be more present with their children. At the same time, she rejected the idea that she was simply demanding that he retire, saying his career decision ultimately belonged to him.

Bündchen also spoke openly about how much of her own life had been structured around Brady’s career.

She said she had moved to Boston, concentrated on creating a stable home for their children and supported Brady as he pursued his football ambitions. By her early 40s, she said she was ready to devote more energy to her own goals and career again.

That distinction became important after the couple divorced.

Brady’s Retirement Became Part of the Divorce Narrative

Brady initially announced his retirement from the NFL in February 2022.

Only about six weeks later, he reversed the decision and announced that he would return to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for another season.

Reports of marital problems intensified later that year, leading to widespread speculation that his decision to keep playing had caused the breakup.

Bündchen later said the real story was much more complicated.

In a 2023 Vanity Fair interview, she strongly rejected the portrayal of herself as a wife who simply forced Brady to choose between football and his marriage.

She explained that the breakup developed over a period of years and said the public had been given only one piece of a much larger situation.

Bündchen said that she and Brady had grown into people who wanted different things from their lives.

She also insisted she had supported his career and wanted him to be happy, despite her concerns about the demands of professional football.

That makes Anderson’s astrology anecdote an intriguing new claim — but not necessarily a complete explanation for what ended the marriage.

Brady and Bündchen married in 2009 and share two children, Benjamin and Vivian. Brady is also the father of son Jack from his previous relationship with actress Bridget Moynahan.

After months of speculation, Brady and Bündchen announced on October 28, 2022, that they had finalized their divorce after 13 years of marriage.

Both described the decision as painful but amicable.

Bündchen said at the time that they had “grown apart,” while Brady said the decision came after significant consideration. Both emphasized that their children would remain their priority.

Shortly afterward, Brady said publicly that he was focused on his family and described the divorce as an “amicable situation.”

Brady officially retired from football again in February 2023, this time saying the decision was permanent.

What the New Book Adds

Anderson’s biography appears poised to reopen questions about what was happening privately during Brady’s final years in the NFL.

The astrology story is particularly striking because Bündchen has long spoken openly about spirituality and alternative wellness practices. Brady himself has previously discussed Bündchen giving him stones and participating in pregame rituals during his football career.

Still, there is an important difference between Bündchen having an interest in astrology and astrology being the reason she ended her marriage.

For now, the latter remains an account attributed to an unnamed source in Anderson’s book.

Bündchen’s own explanation has been broader: after more than a decade together, she and Brady had changed, wanted different things and ultimately grew apart.
