Two Milwaukee musicians were shot and killed inside a recording studio Monday afternoon, leaving their families devastated and a local music community mourning the loss of two artists.

Police were called to the area of 31st Street and Cameron Avenue at about 3:40 p.m., where officers found 21-year-old Daquaiseon D. Evans and 33-year-old Quentene E. Williams suffering from fatal gunshot wounds.

Both men died at the scene.

Evans performed under the name Lil Sheisty, while Williams was known as Funny $Money and had become a familiar name in Milwaukee’s hip-hop scene.

Police said a 28-year-old person was arrested in connection with the deadly shooting, but authorities have not yet revealed what allegedly sparked the violence.

For Evans’ family, the loss has been almost impossible to process.

His twin sister, Jaquaisa Evans, said she has been wearing her brother’s jackets and listening to his music just to feel close to him.

“I’ve been wearing his jackets to feel like he’s close to me,” she told WISN.

She said hearing his songs has also given her a way to hear his voice again.

Evans was not only an aspiring rapper, his sister said, but also a devoted father who leaves behind three children.

“He was a rapper, and he was very family oriented,” she said. “He’s got three kids that he loved dearly.”

The shooting has reopened painful wounds for relatives who say gun violence has already taken too many young people from their family.

“In our family, the last couple of years, it’s been a repeated cycle. Our younger generation is passing on,” family member Shantia Jones told Fox 6.

Evans’ cousin, Trinika Walker, said something has to change.

“We need to change our focus,” she said. “We need to change our mindset if we want to live.”

Williams, meanwhile, was described by Billboard as a key figure in Milwaukee’s independent hip-hop scene.

The 33-year-old had recently released a music video for his song “Goldie/I Ain’t Lying” and earlier this year dropped the album “Paid But Not Full, Vol. 1.”

His death, along with Evans’, is now the latest tragedy to shake a city already struggling with deadly violence.

Wisconsin Public Radio reported that Milwaukee recorded 49 homicides between January and the end of June this year.

Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson said in July that reducing violence will require help from across the community.

“It takes everybody,” Johnson said, pointing to community organizations, churches and youth agencies as part of the effort to make the city safer.

Milwaukee police said the double homicide remains under investigation as detectives work to determine exactly what happened inside the recording studio and what led to the deadly gunfire.
