Isaac Newton’s Chilling ‘End of the World’ Date Isn’t Far Away

Sir Isaac Newton is remembered as one of the greatest scientific minds in history, but long-hidden writings reveal the legendary physicist had another obsession few people associate with him: predicting the end of the world.

Newton, the English mathematician, physicist and astronomer whose work helped shape modern science, spent years studying biblical prophecy alongside mathematics and the laws of nature.

And according to centuries-old writings attributed to Newton, he believed humanity could be approaching a dramatic turning point in 2060.

The startling prediction appeared in papers dating back to 1704 that were later displayed at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

Newton reportedly based his calculations on passages from the Bible’s Book of Daniel, attempting to determine when a prophetic period of 1,260 years would come to an end.

The famed scientist ultimately arrived at the year 2060.

But Newton was careful not to claim he knew for certain that the world would literally end that year.

“It may end later, but I see no reason for its ending sooner,” Newton wrote.

He explained that he was reluctant to make an absolute prediction because previous doomsday forecasts had repeatedly failed.

“This I mention not to assert when the time of the end shall be but to put a stop to the rash conjectures of fanciful men who are frequently predicting the time of the end,” he wrote.

Newton warned that failed predictions could cause people to lose faith in biblical prophecy altogether.

“By doing so they bring the sacred prophesies into discredit as often as their predictions fail,” he wrote.

Newton’s surviving writings suggest he envisioned something more complicated than the planet suddenly being destroyed.

He believed the prophetic period could bring about “the ruin of the wicked nations, the end of weeping and of all troubles,” along with the return of the Jewish people from captivity and the establishment of what he described as a flourishing and everlasting kingdom.

The exact passages and calculations Newton used to reach 2060 have remained a subject of fascination among historians.

His religious writings also revealed a dramatically different side of the man most people know from school textbooks.

Newton published his groundbreaking “Philosophiae Naturalis Principia Mathematica” in 1687, establishing his laws of motion and theory of universal gravitation. His discoveries helped transform humanity’s understanding of physics and the universe.

Yet behind the scientific achievements was a man who spent enormous amounts of time studying religion, biblical chronology and prophecy.

Many of those writings remained largely unknown for generations.

A collection of Newton manuscripts was discovered among papers associated with the Earl of Portsmouth’s estate, helping historians better understand just how deeply religion influenced his thinking.

When some of Newton’s documents were exhibited in Jerusalem in 2007, curator Yemima Ben-Menahem said they showed “a scientist guided by religious fervour, by a desire to see God’s actions in the world.”

Newton’s prediction has gained renewed attention because 2060 is no longer some unimaginably distant date.

It is now only a few decades away.

Of course, Newton was hardly the only historical figure whose writings have been interpreted as warnings about humanity’s future.

Mayan spiritual leader Don Carlos Barrios also issued ominous warnings about the period beginning around 2026 while discussing interpretations of ancient Mayan cycles.

Speaking in the Amazon Prime documentary “Decoding Baqtun,” Barrios claimed humanity could face increasingly serious problems if it failed to change course.

“From 2026 onwards, even worse if we have not managed to stabilise ourselves,” he said while discussing natural disasters and a new cycle he associated with air and ether.

Other supposed prophets — including self-described “time travelers” claiming to come from centuries in the future — have made similarly dramatic predictions.

There is no scientific evidence establishing that the world will end in 2060, and Newton himself stopped short of making such a definitive claim.

Still, the fact that one of history’s most celebrated scientific minds spent years attempting to calculate humanity’s prophetic future has ensured his mysterious 2060 prediction continues to fascinate people more than 300 years later.
