FedEx Killer Trial Leaves Jurors in Tears Over Athena Strand’s Final Moments

A Texas courtroom was pushed to its breaking point this week as jurors heard the chilling final moments of 7-year-old Athena Strand — and many couldn’t hold back tears.

During the emotional sentencing phase for confessed killer Tanner Horner, the court played disturbing audio captured inside his delivery truck, placing jurors face-to-face with the unimaginable. According to reports, the young girl’s voice could be heard asking heartbreaking questions like where she was being taken and whether the man driving was a kidnapper — moments before the situation turned deadly.

The judge, George Gallagher, had warned everyone in the courtroom ahead of time that what they were about to hear would be extremely difficult. Athena’s parents chose not to remain inside as the footage was played. Even seasoned courtroom observers reportedly became overwhelmed, with jurors openly sobbing and others visibly shaken.

Prosecutors say Horner, who had been working as a contract delivery driver, abducted Athena after dropping off a package at her home in November 2022. While he initially claimed the incident began as an accident involving his truck, investigators say the evidence tells a far darker story.
