A fresh wave of royal drama is hitting the UK — and it’s coming from the pages of a new biography that claims the palace’s private opinions about Meghan Markle were far harsher than anything said in public.
In Betrayal: Power, Deceit and the Fight for the Future of the Royal Family, author Tom Bower alleges Queen Camilla once told a friend that Meghan had “brainwashed” Prince Harry.
The book, excerpted in the UK press, claims Harry’s demeanor and relationships shifted after he met Meghan — with Bower portraying the prince as increasingly resentful and more isolated from his old circle.
According to the biography, the tension wasn’t just vague discomfort. Bower claims Prince William and Princess Kate grew wary of Meghan early on and saw her as a disruptive presence inside the family dynamic.
The book also revisits Prince Andrew’s downfall over his ties to Jeffrey Epstein, saying the humiliation “shocked” Harry and fueled his fears about what could happen to him once William is king — including concern he and Meghan could be further cut off or lose remaining royal status.
But Team Sussex isn’t letting those claims sit.
A spokesperson for Harry and Meghan blasted the biography, calling it a “deranged conspiracy” and arguing the author’s work has crossed “from criticism into fixation.” The rep also pointed to remarks Bower has allegedly made about “obliterating” the Sussexes from public life, saying that kind of language “speaks for itself.”
Buckingham Palace has not commented on the book, and representatives for William and Kate also haven’t responded publicly, according to coverage of the excerpts.
