An early-morning trip through a Manhattan hotel lobby turned violent for one NFL player — and the details are still raising eyebrows.

Ronnie Hickman, a safety for the Cleveland Browns, was hospitalized after being assaulted by a group of individuals inside a Lower East Side hotel earlier this month.

According to the New York Post, the incident unfolded around 4:30 a.m. on Feb. 16 at the SIXTY LES hotel on Allen Street. Police say Hickman, 24, was approached by four people in the lobby. What started as an encounter quickly escalated into a dispute — and then violence.

Authorities allege the group struck Hickman before fleeing the scene.

In a statement, the Browns confirmed the frightening ordeal.

“Safety Ronnie Hickman was a victim of assault early Monday morning at a New York City hotel,” the team said. “Ronnie was treated for minor injuries at an area hospital after the incident, was later released, and is home resting with his family.”

Hickman was transported to Bellevue Hospital, where he was treated and discharged later that day. He is reportedly in stable condition.

So far, no arrests have been made. Police are still investigating what sparked the confrontation — including whether Hickman’s status as a professional athlete may have played a role.

The timing is especially jarring given Hickman’s breakout year.

After entering the league as an undrafted free agent out of Ohio State University, Hickman carved out a major role in Cleveland’s defense. He started all 17 games this past season, racking up 103 tackles, seven passes defended, and two interceptions — all career highs.

While the Browns struggled to a 5-12 finish, Hickman emerged as one of the defense’s most consistent performers. Now, instead of focusing solely on football, the young safety is recovering from a violent encounter that could have ended far worse.

Hickman is set to become a restricted free agent this offseason. The Browns can place one of four tender options on him, giving the team the ability to match any outside offer.

For now, though, the focus remains on his health — and on finding whoever was responsible for the shocking hotel lobby attack.
