Savannah Guthrie’s family is living a nightmare as investigators search for her missing 84-year-old mother — after blood and signs of a violent break-in were discovered inside her Arizona home.
Authorities in Catalina Hills say the scene showed clear evidence of forced entry and what appeared to be a struggle, prompting fears that Nancy Guthrie was taken from the home in the middle of the night. Officials have not yet confirmed whose blood was found.
Nancy, whom the Today co-host often calls her “best friend,” vanished sometime after returning from dinner Saturday night. She was reported missing Sunday when she failed to show up for church.
According to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, detectives are now treating the case as a possible kidnapping. “Investigators believe she was taken from the home against her will,” spokesperson Kevin Adger said.
The sheriff’s office announced a $2,500 reward and is asking the public for any photos, videos, or tips that could help identify the suspected abductor. Sheriff Chris Nanos also issued a direct plea: “Just call us. Let her go. The family will tell you — there’s no questions asked here. We don’t need another tragic ending.”
Nancy’s car and cellphone were left behind at the house, and investigators hope data from the device will help narrow down the timeline. She also has serious medical needs and reportedly cannot walk more than 50 yards without assistance, making the search even more urgent. Without her medication, officials warn the situation could become life-threatening.
Detectives are now analyzing DNA evidence collected inside the home as the hunt intensifies.
Savannah has asked fans for prayers as the family waits for answers, calling the situation “every daughter’s worst fear.”
Sheriff Nanos says every available resource is being used: “We’re doing all we can to try to locate her. Every tool we have, we will use.”
