A dream vacation to Thailand turned into a nightmare after a 22-year-old tourist fell to his death while posing for photos at a scenic waterfall on Koh Samui.

Alexis Vergos, a French national and amateur soccer player, was visiting the picturesque Na Muang 2 waterfall with his girlfriend when the tragedy occurred, local authorities confirmed. The couple had climbed onto a rock ledge to take pictures when Alexis reportedly stepped backward, lost his balance, and plunged into the rocky waters below.

“He was taking photos at the waterfall when he slipped, fell into the water, and struck rocks, dying at the scene,” said Police Major Chayut Tulachotikul.

His girlfriend told investigators they had just finished snapping pictures together when the accident happened. In a terrifying twist, she also slipped—but managed to save herself by grabbing onto a tree branch.

Emergency responders spent over three hours navigating the treacherous terrain to recover Alexis’s body, which was found on the second tier of the waterfall.

The incident has shaken both locals and tourists, with many calling for improved safety measures at popular sightseeing spots. Koh Samui, known for its stunning natural beauty, has long been a hotspot for travelers seeking Instagram-worthy views—but this tragedy serves as a heartbreaking reminder of the risks that can come with that perfect shot.
