It turns out Hollywood’s unlikeliest duo — Liam Neeson and Pamela Anderson — were this close to becoming an item before one haunting truth stopped the romance cold.
According to insiders, the Irish action star’s decades-long grief over the tragic loss of his wife, Natasha Richardson, was the “impossible to overcome” wall that ended his short-lived connection with Anderson.
The pair reportedly grew close while filming The Naked Gun reboot earlier this year, with Anderson, 58, later confirming they were “romantically involved for a short while” once filming wrapped.
They even spent an “intimate week” together at Neeson’s New York home — complete with family visits, assistants in tow, and separate rooms — but the spark never turned into something lasting.
“Liam still struggles every day with losing Natasha,” a source told RadarOnline. “He’s never really gotten over it, and that shadow makes it impossible for him to fully commit to anyone else, no matter how much he cares.”
Natasha Richardson died in 2009 following a freak skiing accident in Quebec — an event that continues to define Neeson’s personal life. “She seemed fine after the fall,” the insider added. “But the injury was catastrophic. That loss shaped everything for him.”
Even as the two reunited for The Naked Gun press tour this summer, friends say the connection couldn’t break through Neeson’s emotional armor. “Pamela was sunshine — funny, warm, full of life,” another source said. “But Liam carries that grief everywhere. He adores her, but he just can’t move past the pain.”
Anderson, for her part, called the fling “real, not a publicity stunt.” She said, “We were having fun — like something out of a Nancy Meyers movie. I adore Liam, but we’re better as friends.”
The Baywatch icon recalled nervously meeting Neeson on set, even baking him bread and muffins to “keep outta trouble.” Neeson, 73, was instantly charmed, later saying, “I remember thinking, ‘Wow, she is gorgeous,’ but also just human and funny. We found this shared silliness, and it was terrific.”
Now, despite their brief spark, sources say the pair remain close friends — grateful for the laughter they shared, even if the romance was fleeting. “It’s a bond built on respect,” a friend said. “But it’s also a reminder that some wounds never fully heal.”
