A horrifying tragedy unfolded at an Oklahoma animal park when Ryan Easley, a longtime friend and associate of Tiger King star Joe Exotic, was fatally attacked by one of his tigers during a live show — all while his wife and young daughter watched in shock.

Easley, 37, owned the Growler Pines Tiger Preserve near Hugo, Oklahoma, where he regularly performed up-close animal demonstrations for visitors. The former zookeeper, who had previously worked with Joe Exotic and reportedly obtained several big cats from him, was known for his hands-on approach and deep bond with the animals.

The Fatal Attack

According to Choctaw County Sheriff Terry Park, the attack happened inside a large cage during a routine training performance. Witnesses say the tiger suddenly lunged, biting and shaking Easley before anyone could intervene.

“It was just a freak accident,” Sheriff Park said. “This was a tiger he’d raised from a cub — he knew it inside and out. But these are wild animals, and even the most experienced handler can’t predict everything.”

By the time emergency responders arrived, Easley was already dead.

Joe Exotic Speaks Out

Joe Exotic, currently serving time in federal prison, reportedly shared a now-deleted Instagram tribute after hearing the news.

“Prayers go out to his family,” the Tiger King star wrote. “Ryan took great care of his animals. He loved every one of those tigers and was an advocate for them — and for elephants, too.”

Animal rights group PETA confirmed Easley had received tigers from Exotic years earlier for his preserve.

A Life Devoted to Big Cats

In a heartbreaking statement on Facebook, Growler Pines Tiger Preserve called Easley’s death “a painful reminder of both the beauty and unpredictability of the natural world.”

“Ryan understood those risks — not out of recklessness, but out of love,” the preserve wrote. “The animals under his care weren’t just animals to him. They were family — beings he respected and cared for deeply every single day.”

A GoFundMe campaign has since been launched to support Easley’s wife and daughter as the small-town community reels from the devastating loss.

The Tiger King Curse?

The shocking death marks another grim chapter connected to the Tiger King world — a saga already steeped in controversy, legal battles, and tragedy. From Joe Exotic’s imprisonment to the mysterious fates of other zoo staffers and animal handlers, Easley’s death adds yet another haunting layer to the legacy of America’s most infamous tiger empire.

  1. We seem to keep forgetting that wild animals belong in the wild, and if not in the wild, still need to be treated as wild animals.  An owner/caretaker may be accepted by an animal, but that doesn\’t extrapolate to every human.  At one level, Joe\’s naivety is responsible for murder.  He, of all people should have known better.
