King Charles has shared a rare update on his health as he continues his battle with cancer — just days before a highly anticipated reunion with his estranged son, Prince Harry.

During a visit to open a new hospital in the U.K., the 76-year-old monarch reassured a fellow cancer patient, saying, “I’m not too bad,” when asked about his recovery. In a lighter moment, Charles joked in a separate meeting that “bits don’t work so well once you get past 70,” hinting at the challenges of both age and illness.

Buckingham Palace has not revealed the exact type of cancer Charles is fighting, though it is understood not to be prostate cancer. He has been undergoing treatment since January of last year.

The update comes as Charles prepares to see Harry face-to-face for the first time since February. Harry is set to return to the U.K. for the WellChild Awards on September 8, which coincides with the third anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s death. But palace insiders say tensions remain high.

“Harry’s team is pushing for an answer, but diaries are tight due to the family gathering at Balmoral, and there’s nervousness about what Harry might expect,” a royal source revealed. “There’s no appetite for confrontation, but they know Harry is determined — and that makes things tricky.”

Adding to the drama, Harry’s fractured relationship with Prince William and Kate Middleton remains unresolved. The brothers haven’t had meaningful interaction since Charles’ coronation in May 2023, and insiders say William is unlikely to use this visit to mend fences.

“One of the most sensitive sticking points is whether Harry should meet with William and Kate,” an insider explained. “Harry has always felt Kate could be the bridge between him and William. If he can get her on his side, he believes the rest will follow.”

Meanwhile, Meghan Markle has opted out of the trip entirely. According to friends, she wants no part in reopening old wounds. “Meghan absolutely doesn’t want to be seen as the problem all over again,” a source said. “She’s made it clear Harry has to do this on his own.”

This reunion — if it happens — could mark a turning point for the royal family. But with unresolved grudges and delicate emotions at play, it’s shaping up to be anything but smooth.
