A quiet flight turned into a flying fistfight Monday night when a screaming match between rowdy women and an irate father exploded into an all-out brawl aboard an AirAsia jet en route to China.
Flight D7326 had just taken off from Kuala Lumpur around 6:11 p.m. local time, bound for Chengdu, China, when tensions between passengers reached a boiling point halfway through the four-hour trip.
A viral video circulating online shows the jaw-dropping moment a woman in a green outfit and baseball cap lunges across the aisle, repeatedly punching a male passenger seated behind a food tray. The stunned man ducks for cover as flight attendants scramble to pull her off.
“I couldn’t believe what I was watching,” said one shocked eyewitness who filmed the encounter. “The women were talking so loudly even after the cabin lights went out. The man just wanted to sleep—he asked politely at first.”
But things turned nasty fast. According to passengers, the man snapped after being ignored, allegedly calling the women “stupid” and telling them to “shut up.” That’s when fists started flying—and not just from one woman.
“The mother of one of them jumped in too,” said the passenger. “Then more of the women stood up and began hitting him. At least two women were throwing punches.”
Video from the chaotic scene shows emergency lights flashing and multiple flight attendants struggling to restrain the fighters. Passengers in surrounding rows ducked and gasped as the mid-air melee unfolded.
Despite the frenzy, the flight landed safely at Chengdu Tianfu International Airport at 10:13 p.m., where local police were waiting on the tarmac. China’s Sichuan Public Security Bureau confirmed an investigation is underway, though it remains unclear if any arrests were made.
AirAsia has yet to release an official statement on the incident.
The disturbing confrontation is part of a troubling uptick in unruly behavior aboard international flights—a growing issue as air travel rebounds under President Donald Trump’s tightened aviation safety mandates.
Just last week, another mid-flight meltdown made headlines when an elderly woman on a Hong Kong Express flight exploded on a young family. The woman screamed obscenities at the parents, accusing their toddler of kicking her seat. Footage of the tirade shows her yelling, “Your fing kid is kicking my chair, motherfer!”
That flight was met by a team of police officers upon landing in Vietnam.
“These kinds of incidents are becoming all too common,” said aviation analyst Mark Lytton. “Between post-pandemic travel surges and declining passenger etiquette, flight crews are being pushed to their limits.”
As of July 2025, the FAA has logged a 19% spike in in-flight disturbances globally compared to the same time last year.
With passengers on edge and airlines scrambling to maintain order, one thing is clear: the skies are anything but friendly.
