A quiet wave from Princess Kate during a royal parade has set TikTok on fire—thanks to what was happening just behind her.
During the Trooping the Colour parade on June 14, as her carriage rolled past a group of anti-monarchy protesters shouting “Not My King,” Kate kept her composure, smiling and waving with her children at her side. The moment, captured by a TikTok user, has racked up nearly 700,000 views and tens of thousands of likes, igniting debate across social media.
The protest was organized by Republic, a group pushing to abolish the monarchy and install an elected head of state. The organization has ramped up visibility under King Charles III, in contrast to the relatively protest-free reign of Queen Elizabeth II. Republic’s CEO Graham Smith called the demonstration a success, saying, “We were very visible and got some really great shots.”
One of those “great shots” was the now-viral clip showing Princess Kate and Princess Charlotte gliding past as protesters held signs and chanted just feet away. Smith said some royal supporters tried to drown out the protest with boos—ironically creating confusion about whether they were booing the royals or the republicans.

Social media reactions have been split. One TikTok user commented, “I’d rather a royal family than a president. They’re the only tradition the UK has left.” Another wrote, “I don’t understand the hate,” while a third said, “King Charles is king whether you like it or not!”
Despite past tensions with police—especially over banner sizes and alleged risks to royal horses—Republic continues to grow bolder in its visibility. Meanwhile, the royals seem to be adapting. What once might have caused a stir now earns a serene smile and a wave.
If the goal was to fluster the future queen, the attempt backfired. Instead, Kate’s graceful response has made her the face of royal resilience in an age of public protest.
