It wasn’t Wyatt Russell shouting at armed National Guardsmen outside a Los Angeles immigration detention center — but the internet thought otherwise.
A viral video from a recent ICE protest in downtown L.A. shows a bearded man in a denim jacket confronting federal troops with a dramatic plea.
I have personally confirmed that this very awesome protester from the Los Angeles protests yesterday is NOT Wyatt Russell. His name is Aaron Fisher (@aaronfisher89). As he told me: “It’s the message that’s important though, not the messenger!” pic.twitter.com/EPpNVBGvKU

“You took an oath to the Constitution, not the fascists in the White House!” the protester yells, pointing at a line of stone-faced guards gripping assault rifles. “They don’t give a damn about you. You should be standing here with us!”
The video rocketed across social media platforms, racking up millions of views in less than 24 hours. Some claimed the man was Wyatt Russell — the son of Hollywood power couple Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn, and a rising star in his own right with credits in Marvel’s The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and Overlord.
But the dramatic confrontation was not a Russell family affair.
Russell’s Team Responds: “That’s Not Wyatt”
Within hours of the video going viral, a spokesperson for Wyatt Russell shut the rumors down.
“That’s not Wyatt,” the rep confirmed to The Independent. “He wasn’t involved in the protest, and he hasn’t made any public statements about it.”
The real man behind the viral moment is Aaron Fisher, a political strategist and former staffer for the Ohio House Democratic Caucus. Fisher now works as a partner at Statecraft Media, a progressive firm that helps left-leaning candidates and causes shape their messaging.
When asked about the confusion, Fisher didn’t seem to mind.
“Glad It Helped Spread the Message”
“I guess I can see why people thought it was him,” Fisher said in an interview with Entertainment. “We’ve both got the beard and the hair. I’m just flattered they think I look like a Marvel actor.”
But he’s also serious about the protest’s message.
“This wasn’t about going viral,” he said. “This was about reminding the National Guard — and everyone watching — that the real fight is for human rights and the Constitution. If being mistaken for Wyatt Russell helps get that message out, so be it.”
Hollywood Meets the Culture War — Again
The Russell family has long walked a political tightrope in Hollywood. Kurt Russell has described himself as “a hardcore libertarian,” and in past interviews has said celebrities should “stay out of politics.” Goldie Hawn, too, has generally avoided partisan controversy.
Wyatt Russell, meanwhile, has kept a low political profile, though his role as a conflicted Captain America replacement in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier opened him up to fierce political interpretation.
This isn’t the first time a celebrity lookalike has stirred the internet. But in a politically charged moment — with federal immigration raids sparking heated protests in multiple cities — the mistaken identity underscored just how quickly Hollywood and activism can collide, even unintentionally.
Whether Wyatt Russell liked it or not, his name was pulled into the spotlight — and so was the message behind the protest.

Glad to see Kurt and Goldie, my age BTW, raised much better kids than that!
