Once praised for playing in Israel, now accused of aligning with terrorists after waving Palestinian flag on stage
Imagine Dragons just lit a match—and may have burned down their own career.
The American pop-rock band stunned the world Tuesday night when frontman Dan Reynolds wrapped himself in a Palestinian flag at a concert in Milan, kissed it, and tossed it proudly into the cheering crowd. The moment, caught on camera, instantly exploded online—spawning outrage, disbelief, and calls for a boycott.
“They just went from Billboard to bloodstained,” one furious fan posted.
From Chart-Toppers to Terror Sympathizers?
Critics aren’t holding back.
“This is no innocent gesture,” said ACT for America chair Brigitte Gabriel. “They just waved the flag of a movement that cheers when Jews are slaughtered. Imagine Dragons didn’t just cross a line — they bulldozed it.”
Social media erupted in chaos. While some progressive users cheered the “bold political stand,” many longtime fans — including those with Jewish heritage or ties to Israel — said they were sickened by what they saw.
“It looks like Imagine Dragons supports terrorism now,” posted one user whose grandparents survived the Holocaust. “They’ve chosen the side of murderers.”
‘They Called for Gay Rights — Then Waved a Flag of Hate’
The hypocrisy, fans say, is mind-bending. Reynolds has long branded himself a champion of LGBTQ rights, famously waving rainbow and Progress Pride flags at shows. But Gaza and Palestinian-controlled areas are infamous for persecuting gay people — often brutally.
“You don’t get to preach gay rights one night and wave the flag of a regime that jails or kills gays the next,” said conservative pundit Clay Travis. “This isn’t activism. It’s idiocy.”
Another fan raged: “They might as well have waved a Hamas flag and called it a peace sign.”
A Stunning Fall from Grace
Just two years ago, Imagine Dragons defied pressure and played in Israel — earning rare praise for refusing to cave to the anti-Israel boycott crowd. That goodwill? Gone in an instant.
“Imagine Dragons had the guts to play in Tel Aviv,” one Israeli fan wrote. “Now they kiss the same flag used by people who want us wiped off the map. We’re heartbroken.”
The Milan stunt came at the end of a packed show. Reynolds waved the Palestinian flag alongside the Ukrainian flag — a move many are calling bizarre and tone-deaf, given the glaring contradictions.
“Ukraine is fighting for freedom. Hamas is fighting for genocide. Dan Reynolds doesn’t seem to know the difference,” said one commenter.
Silence Speaks Volumes
The band has refused to address the backlash. Their social media pages have gone quiet, even as the controversy gains global traction.
Reynolds previously told Rolling Stone he doesn’t regret playing in countries like Israel or Azerbaijan, saying, “I don’t believe in punishing fans for what their governments do.” But Tuesday’s move felt less like neutrality — and more like taking a side.
A side that many Americans, especially conservatives, see as the enemy.
Backlash Grows: ‘They’re Finished’
Thousands of fans are now calling for a boycott. Hashtags like #BoycottImagineDragons and #TerrorFlagTour are trending across platforms.
“They were once a band for everyone,” one former fan wrote. “Now they’re just another woke act waving a terrorist symbol.”
Reynolds may have thought he was making a statement. He did — just not the one he intended.
In today’s political climate, waving a flag is never just waving a flag. And for Imagine Dragons, it may be the most costly move of their career.
