Jeff Sperbeck, best known as NFL legend John Elway’s longtime agent and close friend, has died at 62 following a tragic accident, officials confirmed Wednesday. His time of death was listed as 1:10 AM.
Sperbeck had been on life support since Saturday, when he suffered a traumatic brain injury after falling off the back of a golf cart reportedly driven by Elway. The group — including their wives and Elway’s son — was returning from a post-Stagecoach party around 7 PM on April 26 when the incident occurred.
Sources say Sperbeck fell from the cart and struck his head on the ground. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors determined his injuries were not survivable. He remained on life support as arrangements were made for organ donation.
Elway, who made the 911 call himself, was reportedly frantic at the scene as he tried to help his friend.
Law enforcement initially didn’t respond due to staffing demands at the nearby music festival but have since launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident.
Elway and Sperbeck’s relationship dates back to the early 1990s, when Sperbeck began representing the Hall of Fame quarterback. Over the years, their professional bond turned into a deep personal friendship. The two also co-founded a winery, 7Cellars, and frequently appeared together at events.
