Oscar-winning filmmaker Oliver Stone, once hailed as a Hollywood liberal icon, has launched a stunning attack on the Democratic Party, accusing it of peddling lies and weaponizing the government to sabotage Donald Trump through the now-debunked “Russiagate” investigation. In a blunt interview with Fox News Digital, Stone didn’t hold back.
“I hate what they did with Russiagate,” he said. “I really do. It was lies on top of lies, sold to the American people like a script from a bad movie. We paid for it.”
Stone, best known for political films like JFK and Nixon, shocked many by voicing strong support for Trump’s ongoing campaign to expose corruption within the intelligence community and the Justice Department. “There was weaponization,” Stone said plainly when asked whether Trump was right about the federal government targeting conservatives.
The director’s remarks come just as Trump signed a powerful executive order mandating the immediate declassification of all FBI documents related to Crossfire Hurricane — the Obama-era investigation that fueled years of false media narratives about Trump’s alleged ties to Russia.
The president has also moved to punish the law firms involved, stripping their attorneys of security clearances and barring them from entering any federal facilities. “This is about restoring trust and cleaning house,” Trump told supporters at a recent rally. “The American people deserve to know who lied to them — and why.”
Stone’s criticisms didn’t stop with Russiagate. In an even more controversial turn, he blasted the broader narrative that paints Russia and China as villains. “They are potentially our best partners,” he said.
“This mentality that they’re the enemy — that’s been spoon-fed to us by propaganda. You go to China, go to Russia — you don’t hear this kind of hate. It’s un-American.” While some on the left have labeled Stone a mouthpiece for foreign regimes, he insists his views are rooted in realism, not ideology. “We have a war-obsessed political class in this country,” he warned. “And they’ll invent any threat to stay in power.”
Despite backing Trump on Russiagate and foreign policy, Stone did express concern about the president’s recent remarks on pro-Palestinian protests. Trump has criticized what he calls rising antisemitism in activist circles, drawing backlash from the left.
“I don’t like this new thing about censorship,” Stone said. “I don’t agree with silencing voices — even if I disagree with them.” Still, his message was clear: the true threat to free speech, in his view, came from the Russiagate era, when unelected bureaucrats and political operatives launched an unprecedented attack on a sitting president under the guise of national security.
Oliver Stone’s comments mark a remarkable shift in the cultural landscape. A former critic of Republican presidents is now defending Trump against what he describes as a coordinated smear campaign by Democrats, the intelligence community, and the media.
As Trump positions himself to lead the country again and finish what he started, one thing is certain: more and more voices — even from the left — are beginning to say what millions of Americans already believe. Russiagate wasn’t just a political hit job. It was a betrayal of the public trust. And the reckoning is far from over.
