In a commanding address to a joint session of Congress, President Donald Trump outlined his vision for America’s future, receiving a largely positive response from viewers, according to multiple instant polls.

However, the speech was briefly interrupted by an outburst from Rep. Al Green (D-TX), whose behavior was widely condemned and ultimately led to his removal from the chamber.

Trump Champions American Revival

Delivering the longest speech to Congress in six decades, Trump reaffirmed his commitment to “fighting for the American dream” and pushing forward with an aggressive policy agenda designed to reignite economic growth, strengthen national security, and restore the country’s global standing.

Snap polls conducted by CNN and CBS News found that nearly seven in ten Americans who watched the address had a favorable reaction, with 44% describing their impression as “very positive” and another 25% marking it as “somewhat positive.” In contrast, 31% viewed it negatively.

Such high approval ratings for a presidential address are common, as those tuning in often align with the president’s base. Nevertheless, the strong numbers underscore Trump’s continued influence and ability to energize supporters early in his second term.

Historic Second Term and Policy Priorities

Now the second U.S. president to serve non-consecutive terms—following Grover Cleveland in the 19th century—Trump has wasted no time in setting an ambitious course for his administration. His speech touched on several pressing issues, including:

  • Economic Growth: Highlighting record-low unemployment rates and a resurgence in manufacturing jobs, Trump pledged to cut taxes further and eliminate unnecessary regulations stifling American businesses.
  • Border Security: With illegal immigration surging under the previous administration, Trump vowed to fortify America’s borders, bolster law enforcement, and continue building the southern border wall.
  • Foreign Policy Strength: Asserting that “America is back,” Trump signaled a more assertive stance against China, Russia, and other global adversaries while reaffirming strong alliances with key partners.

One of the more unexpected moments of the speech came when Trump suggested that the United States would welcome Greenland as an American territory, sparking both amusement and intrigue among lawmakers and analysts.

Al Green’s Disruptive Outburst Sparks Backlash

While Trump focused on policy and unity, Rep. Al Green (D-TX) stole headlines with a disruptive protest that resulted in his ejection from the chamber. According to a CNN poll, an overwhelming 80% of respondents found Green’s actions “inappropriate,” with only 20% defending his behavior.

The incident, which saw Green shouting accusations at Trump before being forcibly removed, was widely panned as yet another example of the Democratic Party’s deep-seated hostility toward the president. Conservatives and independent observers alike criticized Green’s antics as disrespectful and counterproductive.

Looking Ahead: Momentum and Challenges

Despite Democrats’ continued opposition, Trump’s momentum appears strong. However, comparisons with past presidential addresses reveal a shift in public perception. While 44% of CNN poll respondents rated the speech as “very positive,” that number was lower than the 57% recorded in Trump’s first address to Congress in 2017. Additionally, Biden’s first speech in 2021 garnered a 48% “very positive” rating, though his later approval ratings plummeted as his administration struggled with economic turmoil and foreign policy missteps.

As Trump’s second term unfolds, the challenges remain formidable, but the president has made it clear: he intends to “fight, fight, fight” to fulfill his promises to the American people.

  1. Trump\’s speech was nothing but lies. He has no mandate, less than 50%, and only won by a little over 1%. Musk bought his win and continues to illegally interject himself into taxpayers personal business. We are laughed at overseas and what he did to Zelensky was horrible and he continues to do all he can to support Putin. At this rate, we will soon no longer be a democracy!
