The New Orleans Saints are grieving the loss of a beloved team member, Matthew Tenedorio, who tragically lost his life in the New Year’s terrorist attack. Fourteen lives were claimed in the devastating incident, leaving the city and its residents reeling.
Matthew Tenedorio, a 26-year-old video production team member for ASM New Orleans, was widely regarded as a rising star. His work enriched the game-day experience for fans of both the New Orleans Saints and the Pelicans. The team released a heartfelt statement Thursday, expressing their profound sorrow.
“Among those lost was Matthew Tenedorio, a valued member of the ASM New Orleans video production team,” the statement read. “Matthew was young, talented, and had a bright future, helping deliver quality content for both the New Orleans Saints and Pelicans.”
Matthew’s parents, now grappling with the unimaginable loss, spoke with local news outlets. His father shared that working at the Caesars Superdome was more than a job; it was a dream fulfilled.
“Matthew loved his work. He poured his heart into it. The Superdome meant the world to him,” he said.
His mother’s sorrow is compounded by regret. She tearfully recalled advising her son to avoid Bourbon Street on New Year’s Eve. “I begged him not to go,” she said. “But he just laughed and said, ‘It’s tradition, Mom.’”
The family tried desperately to reach Matthew after news of the attack broke. “When he didn’t answer his phone, we feared the worst,” his father added.
The attack, which took place during New Year’s celebrations in the heart of New Orleans, has left the city shaken. Alongside Tenedorio, another victim was identified as former Princeton Tigers football player Tiger Bech. Authorities are continuing to investigate, vowing to bring those responsible to justice.
Matthew’s colleagues have described him as a dedicated professional who brought creativity and energy to his work.
“He had this infectious enthusiasm,” said Sarah Dunlap, a fellow production team member. “He made everything better, from his ideas to the way he treated people.”
New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell emphasized the collective loss. “This tragedy has shaken our city to its core. We mourn not just for Matthew but for all the lives senselessly taken. We will come together to heal, as New Orleans always does.”
As the Saints prepare for their next game, the team has announced plans to honor Matthew and all the victims with a moment of silence and a special tribute at the Superdome.
For the Tenedorio family, the pain is immeasurable, but they hope Matthew’s memory serves as a beacon of hope and inspiration. “He loved New Orleans, and he loved the Saints,” his father said. “That’s how we want him remembered.”
This tragedy underscores the resilience of a community united by grief but determined to stand strong. As the city mourns, the legacy of Matthew Tenedorio and the others lost will continue to shine.
