Andi Dorfman, a fan favorite from The Bachelorette, has opened up about a health scare just days after giving birth to her first child. The 37-year-old welcomed her daughter, Harper, on December 20, 2024. But what should have been a time of pure joy quickly turned into a challenging ordeal.

Dorfman revealed to her fans on Instagram that she had to return to the hospital for surgery less than a week after leaving with her newborn. Sharing a heartfelt post, she wrote, “Welp, we’re back! This time for Mama (a minor setback and need a quick/safe procedure) but got to get a quick snuggle with this little nugget first. Also never been less excited for anesthesia—motherhood changes you quick.”

The cause of Dorfman’s pain? Two hematomas—one large and one small. She described the mounting discomfort she felt after returning home post-delivery, noting how her pain worsened each day despite reassurances she found online about postpartum recovery.

“After trying every home remedy, I finally called my doctors, and they told me to come right in,” Dorfman shared. Within hours, she was prepped for a straightforward but nerve-wracking procedure.

Dorfman used her experience to spotlight an often-overlooked aspect of motherhood: postpartum care. She admitted feeling isolated and confused by the lack of resources and support available to new moms.

“I realized I’m not alone in feeling confused and alone with the general lack of postpartum care,” she wrote. Dorfman encouraged mothers to trust their instincts and seek medical help when needed, emphasizing, “Your instincts are valid (and probably right).”

Her candid message resonated with many followers, who flooded her inbox with stories of similar struggles. Dorfman’s advice? Prioritize self-care for the sake of your baby. “I felt some guilt worrying about myself instead of my daughter, but I realized she’s no good if I’m no good.”

Dorfman’s journey to this milestone has been a long and public one. Fans first met her on the 18th season of The Bachelorin 2014, where she memorably left the show after an awkward overnight date with Juan Pablo Galavis. She later became the lead on The Bachelorette, where she got engaged to Josh Murray—a relationship that ended in 2015.

After years of personal and professional growth, Dorfman found lasting love with Blaine Hart, a real estate executive. The two reconnected after meeting years earlier in college and tied the knot in a dreamy Italian wedding in May 2023.

Now, as Dorfman navigates the highs and lows of motherhood, her story is a poignant reminder of the importance of advocating for one’s health—and the resilience of mothers everywhere.

Dorfman’s openness has sparked an important conversation about postpartum recovery. Experts often stress that every mother’s experience is unique, and there’s no one-size-fits-all timeline for healing.

Dr. Lisa Thomas, an OB-GYN based in New York, agrees. “Hematomas like the ones Dorfman experienced are not uncommon, but they can be serious if untreated. Her decision to trust her body and seek medical attention was absolutely the right call,” Thomas explained.

Dorfman’s journey highlights the urgent need for better education and support for postpartum mothers—a message that’s resonating far beyond her social media following.

As she continues to heal, Dorfman’s bravery in sharing her story serves as an inspiration to mothers facing similar challenges. And with Harper by her side, she’s tackling motherhood with the same grace and determination that endeared her to fans a decade ago.
