A chilling scene unfolded last month outside the Santa Monica Police Department, and the newly released bodycam footage is gripping America.
A cop was brutally stabbed by a knife-wielding man just steps from the police station door. The suspect, later identified as Deyaa Abdelhadi Halaibeh, was fatally shot during the violent encounter.
The footage starts with Halaibeh pulling an 8-inch chef’s knife from his jacket and lunging at the officer. The attack happened in broad daylight, with no hesitation. The officer was stabbed multiple times before managing to break free.
Halaibeh then tried to flee, but the officer pursued him, firing three shots. The suspect collapsed but defied commands to stay down. The officer fired four additional shots, ending the threat.
This wasn’t a random act of violence. Police revealed that Halaibeh had just robbed a nearby Target, stealing a box of kitchen knives. Surveillance footage showed him shoving a store employee to the ground before sprinting straight to the police headquarters—armed and dangerous.
The officer, whose name has not been released, was rushed to the hospital with multiple stab wounds. Miraculously, he survived after spending a night under medical care and is expected to fully recover.
Incidents like this highlight the growing dangers law enforcement faces daily. According to the FBI’s Law Enforcement Officers Killed and Assaulted (LEOKA) report, assaults on officers have risen sharply in recent years, with 56 officers killed in the line of duty in 2021 alone. Many of these incidents involved edged weapons like knives.
California’s crime wave isn’t new, either. Under progressive leadership, the state has seen skyrocketing thefts and assaults. Santa Monica, once a tourist haven, is now plagued by robberies and violent confrontations, even in high-traffic areas like Target stores and police stations.
Critics argue that lenient policies have emboldened criminals, turning California into a “lawless playground.” It’s a stark reminder of why strong policing and Second Amendment rights are essential to public safety.
What would you have done in the officer’s shoes? It’s easy to armchair quarterback, but split-second decisions like this save lives. Police put their lives on the line every day, and this officer’s courage under attack is proof that law and order still stand a chance—even in California.
