A new report claims Eduardo Xol, the former Extreme Makeover: Home Edition personality who was brutally stabbed in his Palm Springs home, identified the man police say killed him — while he was fighting for his life in the hospital.

Xol, 58, called 911 on Sept. 10, 2024, telling dispatchers he needed help, according to previous reporting. When officers arrived at his apartment in Palm Springs, California, they found him suffering from multiple stab wounds, police said.

He was rushed to the hospital, but the injuries were devastating. Xol died 10 days later.

Now, the Bay Area Reporter says police have alleged that Xol eventually named Richard Gonzales as the person who attacked him — after initially declining to identify anyone.

Gonzales was arrested in connection with the stabbing and later charged with murder following Xol’s death, according to earlier reporting. The Bay Area Reporter also reported that Gonzales appeared in court on March 17 and has previously pleaded not guilty.

The outlet further reported that investigators claimed Xol and Gonzales had been in a casual sexual relationship. Police also alleged that, before Gonzales was arrested, he contacted authorities to report that he had been assaulted the night before.

Officers followed up on that call and later allegedly concluded Gonzales had been at the scene of Xol’s stabbing and was “likely the suspect,” according to prior reporting.

Beyond reality TV, Xol had a long career in entertainment and media, including work as a contributor for PEOPLE En Español, where he wrote a home décor column called Casa con Eduardo Xol.

After his death, Xol’s family released a statement saying they were “heartbroken” and asking for privacy as they grieved. They also requested that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made in his name to the Lupus Foundation of America, saying he spent much of his life in service to others.
