Kiki Shepard, the beloved co-host of the legendary Showtime at the Apollo, has died at 74 following a sudden and unexpected heart attack.

Her representative confirmed that Shepard passed away on Monday, March 16, describing the medical emergency as “massive” and completely unforeseen.

Born Chiquita Renee Shepard, she rose to fame in the 1970s as a dancer before becoming a household name on one of television’s most iconic stages. From 1987 to 2002, she co-hosted Showtime at the Apollo alongside Steve Harvey, helping introduce audiences to rising stars while sharing the spotlight with major performers.

Filmed at Harlem’s historic Apollo Theater, the show became a cultural phenomenon—and Shepard quickly became one of its most recognizable faces. Fans affectionately dubbed her the “Apollo Queen of Fashion” for her standout style and commanding presence.

Over the years, she worked alongside big names like Sinbad and Mo’Nique, playing a key role in shaping the show’s energy and legacy.

But Shepard’s talents went far beyond hosting. She was a dancer, actress, and voice performer, appearing in Broadway productions like Bubbling Brown Sugar, Your Arms Too Short to Box With God, and Porgy and Bess.

She also appeared in several popular TV shows, including Baywatch, NYPD Blue, Everybody Hates Chris, and Grey’s Anatomy, along with roles in films such as A Rage in Harlem and Miss Evers’ Boys.

Following news of her passing, fans flooded her social media with tributes, remembering her impact on entertainment and culture. As of now, her longtime co-host Steve Harvey has not publicly commented.

Shepard was born in Tyler, Texas, and later attended Howard University, where she continued building the foundation for a career that would span decades.
