A quiet California elementary school was thrown into chaos after a 10-year-old boy allegedly stabbed a 7-year-old girl during an after-school program — leaving parents and neighbors stunned that such violence could unfold among children.

The frightening incident happened around 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 12, at Benjamin Bubb Elementary School in Mountain View, according to the Mountain View Police Department.

Emergency dispatchers received reports that a young student had been stabbed while playing in the school’s playground area during an after-school program. When officers arrived, the campus was quickly placed on lockdown as authorities searched for the suspect.

Police found the injured 7-year-old girl suffering from three stab wounds to her shoulder. Investigators believe the weapon used in the attack was a kitchen knife.

Firefighters and paramedics treated the girl at the scene before releasing her into the care of her parent. Authorities later confirmed she is expected to recover.

Meanwhile, the suspect — a 10-year-old boy who was not enrolled in the after-school program — had already fled before officers arrived.

Investigators were able to identify the child using nearby residential surveillance footage. Police said officers recognized the boy from prior encounters.

With help from a K-9 unit from the Los Altos Police Department, officers tracked the boy to his home and detained him without incident.

Because of his age, the boy was not taken to jail. Instead, custody was transferred to clinicians from Pacific Clinics, Santa Clara County’s juvenile mental health services provider.

The shocking attack has rattled the surrounding community.

“A 10-year-old with a knife attacking someone? I can’t even fathom how that could happen,” neighbor Lori Parsons told local reporters.

Students who attend the school were also shaken by the news.

One third-grade student told KTVU she learned about the incident after returning from a dentist appointment.

“At least I wasn’t there,” the girl said. “I’m kind of worried about her because we’ve never had that.”

School officials say staff responded immediately and worked closely with police as the situation unfolded.

“We’re very grateful the student is expected to be okay,” the Mountain View Whisman School District said in a statement. “The safety of our students is always our top priority. Staff acted quickly, and police responded immediately. Our focus now is making sure students and staff have the support they need.”

Authorities have not released further details about what may have led to the violent encounter. The investigation remains ongoing.

  1. The Authorities need to get that 10 year old boy into Psycho Therapy ASAP to not only find out “why” he stabbed that 7 year old girl, but to also get that boy’s mental state in a better, more responsible state of mind!

At 10 years old, he can be helped and his life be turned around into a healthier, more respectable view of life in general. If he just gets thrown into Juvenile Facilities, all he’ll learn there is how to keep doing what he’s doing but hide it better! NOT GOOD FOR SOCIETY NOR THE BOY!!
