Harvey Weinstein is claiming his time behind bars has already exploded into chaos — and he says it got ugly over something as small as a phone line.
In his first official sit-down interview from jail, Weinstein alleges he was attacked at New York City’s Rikers Island after he asked the inmate in front of him a basic question: are you done using the phone?
According to Weinstein, the response was immediate and violent. He claims the inmate turned around and rocked him in the face, sending him crashing to the floor. Weinstein says he was left “bleeding everywhere” — a shocking scene he describes as happening right out in the open.
And even after guards rushed in and demanded to know who did it, Weinstein says he refused to talk. He claims he stayed silent because naming names in jail is a dangerous game — calling it the “law of the jungle.”
But the alleged punch is only part of Weinstein’s latest behind-bars horror story.
His rep, Juda Engelmayer, says Weinstein’s health is in freefall and that Rikers isn’t equipped to handle what’s going on. Engelmayer claims Weinstein is battling spinal stenosis, blood cancer, diabetes, high blood pressure, and worsening vision, and he has a heart stent — plus he’s now confined to a wheelchair.
Weinstein’s team is also raising alarms about what they say could be a brutal logistical grind: frequent transports between the Manhattan courthouse and the Queens jail. Engelmayer claims a prison consultant is trying to secure the meds and treatment Weinstein needs, but insists Weinstein should be held at Bellevue Hospital during his upcoming trial — warning the constant back-and-forth could take a devastating toll.
Weinstein, 73, is currently serving a 16-year sentence after his December 2022 conviction in Los Angeles for rape and other charges.
He’s also awaiting another New York rape trial after his 2020 conviction and 23-year sentence were overturned in 2024 — putting him right back in the legal crosshairs.
Still, Weinstein is sticking to his innocence claim. He admits he could be arrogant and a bully when he had power, but he insists he’s the one being targeted — and says his life is now a locked-cell nightmare.
According to Weinstein, he spends 23 hours a day caged in his cell, with his only real contact coming from guards and nurses — and if his version of events is true, Rikers isn’t just where he’s serving time.
It’s where he says he’s fighting to survive.
