Music icon may be telling fans he’s “doing great,” but behind the scenes, some of his closest friends are reportedly urging him to pump the brakes.
The 82-year-old Copacabana legend recently underwent surgery to remove life-threatening cancerous tissue from his left lung. While the procedure was successful — and he reportedly didn’t need chemotherapy or radiation — insiders say those around him are worried he’s jumping back into the spotlight too quickly.
According to sources close to the situation, Manilow has bounced back with surprising speed. “Everyone is amazed at how well he’s doing,” one insider shared. “The fact that he avoided chemo or radiation feels like a miracle.”
But that relief has quickly turned into concern.
In a Feb. 4 social media update, Manilow reassured fans that he was “doing great and recovering very well.” He said he had already started exercising again and even spent time back in the recording studio.
That determination doesn’t surprise anyone who knows him.
Still, while he postponed his residency shows at Westgate Las Vegas for mid-February, the “Mandy” singer has plans to kick off a tour by the end of the month — and that’s what reportedly has friends uneasy.
“Barry doesn’t do anything halfway,” a source explained. “When he performs, he gives everything he has. That’s what makes him so incredible — but it’s also what worries people right now.”
Those close to him reportedly fear that even if doctors have cleared him to perform, the physical and emotional demands of touring could be more than his body should handle so soon after major lung surgery.
Manilow has a long history with smoking, having previously been a heavy cigarette user before switching to vaping about a decade ago. That past only heightens concerns about how much strain his lungs can handle.
“He’s eager to prove he’s fine,” another insider said. “He wants to show the world he’s still strong. But his body has been through something serious. The people who love him just want him to take his time.”
Fans, of course, are thrilled to hear he’s feeling energized and optimistic. And those close to him say they’re incredibly proud of his resilience.
But their message is simple: the stage will still be there.
For now, they just hope the music legend gives himself the space to fully heal before belting out another show-stopping encore.
