A TikTok creator known for her talkative on-the-road streams has been arrested after allegedly killing a pedestrian while livestreaming behind the wheel.
Tynesha McCarty-Wroten, 43 — who goes by “Tea Tyme” online — was taken into custody Tuesday in connection with the November 3 death of Darren Lucas, 59, police said. Authorities say she struck Lucas with her vehicle in Chicago while broadcasting live to her followers.
According to Lt. Paul Kehrli of the Zion Police Department, McCarty-Wroten faces felony charges of reckless homicide and aggravated use of a communications device resulting in death.
Although she initially stayed at the scene and cooperated with police, investigators later uncovered a screen-recorded TikTok video showing the shocking moment. In the clip, the user “Tea_Tyme_3” can be heard panicking — saying “F—, F—, F— … I just hit somebody” — before a child in the car asks what happened. The video ended abruptly, and the account soon went private.
Adding to public outrage, McCarty-Wroten reportedly went live again days later, asking viewers for Cash App donations — even as Lucas’s family mourned.
“The family and myself are glad to see the wheels of justice moving,” Lucas’s son-in-law, Chris King, told reporters after learning of the arrest.
Authorities have not said whether McCarty-Wroten remains in custody, but the case has reignited debate over livestreaming and distracted driving in the social-media era.
