Just days after celebrating her husband Dick Van Dyke’s 100th birthday, Arlene Silver says her world has turned terrifying.
In an emotional Instagram video, the 54-year-old former makeup artist claimed she’s being stalked in Malibu — and that she’s now too afraid to leave her home. “There’s someone kind of stalking me around Malibu,” she said, tearing up. “I don’t feel comfortable going out, on top of everything else.”
Silver revealed that the “everything else” includes the devastating murder of Van Dyke’s longtime friend and Hollywood legend Rob Reiner — and Reiner’s wife, Michele Singer. Their son, Nick Reiner, 32, was charged this week with two counts of first-degree murder after the couple was found dead in their Los Angeles home.
“It’s been awful,” Silver said. “Dick can’t sleep. We talked to Rob just two weeks ago.”
The actress and singer added that she’s been forced to stop her daily yoga classes, fearing her alleged stalker could show up. “It sucks — that’s the one hour I leave to do something for myself,” she said. “Hopefully he’ll go away, or else I’m gonna have to have a bodyguard escort me to my yoga class. Like, really?”
Silver claimed she’s already confronted the man, saying he pretended not to know what she was talking about. “Dude, you know what you’re doing. Don’t mess with me,” she warned, making a chopping motion to the camera.
She said her husband offered to accompany her to class — but she’s worried that’s exactly what the stalker wants. “There’s always gotta be somebody to mess things up,” she sighed.
Silver wore a “100” birthday button with Van Dyke’s face in her video, saying the celebration was “so over-the-top beautiful” before tragedy struck. “Such a weird, wonderful, awful weekend,” she said, describing the emotional whiplash of joy and grief.
Van Dyke and Reiner had been friends for six decades, from The Dick Van Dyke Show era through Hollywood’s golden years. Silver said she’s now “figuring out” how to handle the stalker — which might mean hiring private security.
“It’s unfortunate, on top of everything else,” she said. “But I have to feel safe again.”
