Country queen Reba McEntire had to do a little damage control on live TV after Today host Savannah Guthrie accidentally called her fiancé Rex Linn her “husband.”

The 70-year-old superstar appeared on Today to chat about Season 2 of her NBC sitcom Happy’s Place when Guthrie slipped up, saying, “You also met your husband there. So Rex, good ole Rex…”

Reba’s jaw dropped — and her hands went straight up in protest.

“Now, wait a minute,” she shot back with a laugh. “Before everybody has a conniption fit at home, we’re just engaged!”

Cue the awkward camera cut to Rex Linn, 69, who smiled sheepishly as the studio broke into laughter.

“My family will go, ‘Wait, you didn’t tell us?!’” Reba joked, warning that Guthrie might’ve just sparked a tabloid frenzy.

Once the laughter died down, Guthrie tried to recover: “But wait a minute — you are engaged now, you work together, how fun is that?”

“It’s a blast,” Reba gushed. “He’s a workaholic and loves to rehearse. Me, not so much, so he makes sure I know my lines and I’m ready. We’re so grateful that we get to go to work together, then go home together.”

Season 2, she said, has been “so much fun” now that they’ve gotten into their rhythm as co-stars.

Reba also revealed a few sweet details about their secret engagement — and why fans didn’t hear about it sooner.

Rex proposed on Christmas Eve 2024 at their Tennessee home, but Reba said they decided not to announce it right away because of the devastating Los Angeles wildfires in early January.

“There was not room for our joy in the devastating situation that everybody else was in,” she explained.

The secret didn’t last long, though — their engagement was accidentally revealed at the Emmy Awards when a reporter called Rex her “fiancé,” and Reba “didn’t correct her.”

The couple, who first met in 1991 while filming The Gambler Returns: The Luck of the Draw but didn’t start dating until 2020, are in no hurry to walk down the aisle.

“I totally was thrilled to death,” Reba said. “I asked him, ‘Well, when do you want to do this?’ and he said, ‘Let’s have fun with the engagement time.’ So we haven’t set a date or anything — we’re just enjoying each other.”

Savannah Guthrie accidentally promoted Reba McEntire from “fiancée” to “wife” live on air — and Reba wasn’t having it. The country legend playfully set the record straight, warning the Today host she might’ve just started wedding rumors that’ll keep her PR team busy for weeks.
