Marcus Morris Sr., the veteran NBA forward known for his time with the Boston Celtics and Cleveland Cavaliers, has been arrested in Florida on a felony fraud charge — and the circumstances surrounding the bust are already sparking backlash.

According to Broward County booking records, Morris was taken into custody at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport. The charge? Allegedly writing a check with insufficient funds — a felony offense in Florida. Morris is currently being held without bond.

The arrest caught the attention of travelers at the busy airport and, perhaps more importantly, his twin brother and fellow NBA player, Markieff Morris. He took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to call out the arrest and defend his brother.

“The wording is crazy,” Markieff wrote. “Damn for that amount of money they’ll embarrass you in the airport with your family. They got y’all really thinking bro did some fraud s–t.”

He went on to say the situation could have been handled privately: “They could have came to the crib for all that… All I can say is Lesson learned. Bro will tell y’all tomorrow. This weird s–t gave me a headache. Can’t stop nothin!”

As of now, no further details have been released about the arrest, and it’s unclear what amount of money was involved. The Daily Beast reported that they’ve reached out to the Broward County Sheriff’s Office for more information.

Marcus Morris Sr., 34, most recently played for the Cleveland Cavaliers and has been in the league since 2011. He remains a free agent going into the next season.

This is a developing story, and more details are expected soon — especially if Morris himself addresses the situation publicly, as his brother suggested.

  1. Are you kidding me. For writing a bad check they embarrass him in public I’m sure they have his address. Whatever bank he is using should be held accountable Did they even notify him the checking account had insufficient funds. With the fact that are known this doesn’t look good for law enforcement, a profession that I highly respect.
